HSSCG is proud to offer service learning (community service hours) to students in our community.  Service-learning is a teaching strategy that links community service experiences to classroom instruction.

Service learning opportunities at HSSCG include:

1.    Donation drives – Student(s) (can work as a group) will organize and conduct a donation drive for HSSCG.  The service based information  form must be submitted to Volunteer Coordinator Sher Pollard.  Items that are needed at HSSCG include:

 2.   Fundraising event – Student(s) (can work as a group) will organize and conduct a fundraising event for HSSCG.  Ideas are limitless but must be approved by Volunteer Coordinator Sher Pollard by submission of the service based information form.  Ideas for fundraisers include a bake sale, homemade jewelry sale, garage/yard sale with proceeds going to HSSCG, concert for family and friends, etc.  Be creative.

3.    Marketing partner program – Student will assist HSSCG’s marketing department with the distribution of flyers. Students will first secure five businesses that will allow HSSCG to place flyers related to upcoming events, animals available for adoption or animal welfare issues. HSSCG will keep a list of the businesses that have agreed.  Student will be responsible for picking up the flyer at HSSCG and placing the flyer in the 5 businesses once a month.  A schedule will be created with the Marketing director.  This program spans September – April.  If  a student is interested in designing a flyer for HSSCG the program period can be adjusted to take into account the time required to design the flyer.

Students are responsible for keeping up with the hours worked on the project by submitting the hours to the advisor when requested. Volunteer Coordinator will sign off that the project was completed but not the hours worked.

Any volunteer hours with the Humane Society will need to be worked out with their staff by calling them at 264-6246. The Humane Society is open Tuesday through Saturday 12:00 to 5:00 pm. They need volunteers to clean cages, walk dogs, weed flower beds, bath and care for the animals, in addition to many other tasks.
