Crime Writers Association (CWA) Dagger Awards
These are the UK's top crime writing awards. Some of the Daggers awarded annually by the CWA:
· The CWA Gold Dagger - best crime novel by an author of any nationality, originally written in English and first published in the UK.
· The CWA Dagger for Crime Fiction in Translation - crime novels for a book not originally written in English and has been translated into English for UK publication.
· The CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger - best thriller novel first published in the UK.
· The CWA ALCS Gold Dagger for Non-Fiction - any non-fiction work on a crime-related theme by an author of any nationality, on condition that the book was first published in the UK in English.
· The John Creasy (New Blood) Dagger - for the best crime novel by a first-time author of any nationality first published in the UK in English.
· The CWA Historical Dagger - best historical crime fiction novel, first published in the UK in English, set in any period up to 50 years prior to the year in which the award will be made.
EBRD Literature Prize
The prize champions the literary richness of almost forty countries. It aims to illustrate the importance of literary translation and to introduce the depth and variety of the voices and creativity from these regions to the English-speaking public and a wider global audience.
English Pen Award
PEN Hessell-Tiltman Prize - a non-fiction book of historical content, not primarily written for the academic market and can cover all historical periods up to and including the Second World War.
PEN Ackerley Prize - a literary autobiography, written by an author of British nationality, for which it is felt that J.R. Ackerley would have expressed enthusiasm.
Goldsmiths Prize
A British literary prize awarded to a piece of fiction that “breaks the mould or extends the possibilities of the novel form.” It is limited to citizens and residents of the United Kingdom and Ireland, and to novels published by presses based in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
International Booker Prize
A sister prize, to the Booker Prize, is awarded for a book translated into English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
International Dublin Literary Award
This is awarded for a novel written or translated into English and promotes excellence in world literature.
James Tait Black Memorial Prize
A literary prize awarded for literature written in the English language. One of Britain's oldest literary awards. Prizes are awarded in three categories: Fiction, Biography and Drama.
Miles Franklin Award
A literary award to a novel which is of the highest literary merit and presents Australian life in any of its phases.
Nero Book Awards
The Awards' feature shortlists and winners across four categories, and culminates with one book being crowned overall winner of the Gold Prize Book of the Year. The four categories are: Children’s Fiction, Fiction, Debut Fiction and Non-Fiction, written by authors based in the UK and Ireland.
Pulitzer Prize
Awarded for achievements in newspaper, magazine, online journalism, literature and musical composition with the United States of America.
Rathbones Folio Prize
The prize is open to all works of literature written in English and published in the UK. All genres and all forms of literature are eligible, except work written primarily for children.
Rubery Book Award
A prestigious international book award seeking the best books by indie writers, self-published authors and books published by independent presses.
Wainwright Prize
The prize is awarded for a work about the general outdoors, nature and UK based travel writing.
Waterstones Book of the Year
Books are nominated by Waterstones booksellers who then vote to determine the winners and finalists for the prize.
Women’s Prize for Fiction
One of the UK's most prestigious literary prizes. It is awarded to a female author of any age, race, nationality or background for the best original full-length novel written in English and published in the United Kingdom.
Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction
