MARY ANN WEIR
Alpha - The leader of the pack. Always male. Makes the rules and ensures that they are enforced. Has the most moon power of anyone in the pack.
Luna - The alpha's mate. Ranks equals his. Always female. Holds the alpha together so he can hold the pack together. Has her own moon power, and can tap into her mate's.
Beta - Ultimate big brother to the luna. Protects and defends her at any cost, even his/her life, and from anyone, even the alpha if necessary.
Gamma - Defender of the pack. Supervises daily training for warriors, organizes and monitors border patrols, and forms and trains fighting squads.
Delta - Caretakers of the most vulnerable pack members, mainly the ill and elderly, and support staff for the pups who haven't gotten their wolves yet. Many shifter healers have delta blood.
Omega - Has the least amount of moon power. Wolf sees everyone as superior and will always submit, regardless of the human's personality.
Once, there were five couples who were best friends.
Royal and Julia Price, alpha and luna of Earthshine pack,
Nathan and Kelly Barlow, alpha and luna of Great Rocks pack (pictured),
Jay and Denise Carson, alpha and luna of Moonset pack,
Gabriel and Kristy Mitchell, alpha and luna of Dark Woods pack, and
Shawn and Genevieve Black, alpha and luna of River Rapids pack.
Sixteen years before the start of Posy, hunters invaded Dark Woods and killed 90% of the population, including Alpha Gabriel and Luna Kristy. Their son, Ash, 2, survived and was adopted by the luna's brother, Alpha Jay Carson and his luna, Denise. Moonset welcomed the few remaining Dark Woods wolves, and life went on.
Ten years later, a sickness swept through shifter communities around the world and showed no mercy, claiming both alphas and omegas. By the end of it, thousands had died, including Luna Kelly Barlow, Alpha Jay and Luna Denise Carson, and Alpha Shawn Black. The surviving friends decided to unite their territories to give their pups and packs the best chance at surviving, rebounding, and thriving. The Moon Goddess blessed the combination of packs and so Five Fangs was born.
Mason Price, 21, alpha of Earthshine, wolf - Garnet. He is the son of Royal and Julia Price. Smells like campfire to Posy.
Cole Barlow, 20, alpha of Great Rocks, wolf - Topaz. He is the son of Nathan and the late Kelly Barlow. Smells like pine to Posy.
Jayden Carson, 19, alpha of Moonset, wolf - Quartz. He is the son of the late Jay and Denise Carson. Smells like roses to Posy.
Ash Mitchell, 18, alpha of Dark Moon, wolf - Obsidian (Sid). He is the son of the late Gabriel and Kristy Mitchell. Kristy and Jay Carson were siblings; Ash and Jayden are cousins. Smells like maple syrup to Posy.
Wyatt Black, 18, alpha of River Rapids, wolf - Granite. He is the son of Genevieve "Evie" and the late Shawn Black. Smells like vanilla to Posy.
Luna Posy Briggs, 18, wolf - Lark. She is the daughter of Naomi Swift Briggs and the step-daughter of the late Alpha Kendall Briggs of Green River. Smells like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies to her mates.
At the age of 18, shifters can find their mates.
Identical male multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) always share a mate. If it is a time when she wolves are in short supplies, brothers may also share a mate.
Fraternal male multiples never share a mate, and females never share a mate, not even identical multiples.
Each Goddess-given mate has a special scent that only his or her true mate can smell.
The male shifter allows his wolf to ascend and "mark" his mate. This process consists of biting her on a special place on her neck, throat, shoulder, or upper chest.
To humans, the mate mark looks like a tattoo. Ninety percent of mate marks look like the male's wolf.
She wolves can choose to mark their mates; most mated to males do not, however, as the male's mate mark completes their bond.
If one mate dies, the mate bond is broken. Survival rates for the remaining mate ranges is poor, hovering at about 25%. Males are known to go feral if they lose their mates, and the females' wolves might go insane or fade back to the Goddess in their grief.
Surviving mates can decide to accept a chosen mate if their wolves are agreeable. If females do so, they will resume a monthly cycle and can bear pups with their new mate.
Shifters can reject their Goddess-given mates, although that happens very rarely because it's dangerous to do. Females often die if their mates reject them, although there are historical records of males dying if their mate rejects them.
Shifters who lost their mates or never find them can choose a mate, much like humans choose their partners. This is known as a chosen mate.
Homosexuality is accepted by most shifter communities, although a few alphas have made it a practice to eliminate or banish LBGTQ+ members since the sickness in their drive to replenish their pack numbers.
There are very few gay female shifters. Up to 20% of the males in a wolf pack can be gay.
There are usually 1/3 more males than females in a wolf pack, so male wolves often find mates among other species of shifters or humans.
If they are Goddess-given mates, heat will activate in the female a few weeks after marking and mating the first time. While in heat, the female produces a scent her mate cannot resist, and she will be in great pain if her mate does not mate her. If protection is not used during heat, the female will get pregnant.
If a she wolf has multiple mates, they all need to mate her during heat for her to get pregnant. Also, her pain will continue until all of her mates mate with her.
If they are chosen mates, the female maintains her normal monthly cycle. Her chances of getting pregnant each cycle mirrors a human's.
At age 12, shifters receive their animal spirit.
The animal spirits of wolf, tiger, and dragon shifters are their own entities.
These animal spirits can operate their humans' bodies, and their humans can control their animals' bodies. This is known as ascending or being ascendant.
Wolf, tiger, and dragon spirits can hear their humans' words and thoughts unless their humans deliberately block them.
Bird, fox, and bear shifters have a form they can transform into, and they can access their animal spirits' senses and abilities, but there is no second entity.
Shifters have a talent known as half-shifting. This is a perfect blend of both the human and animal spirit's physical forms. When it comes to wolf shifters, half-shifted is the form humans typically associate with the term werewolves.
The world is divided into multiple kingdoms. There are faerie kingdoms, dragon realms, wolf kingdoms, and water worlds.
Five Fangs in located in the North American wolf kingdom, which has been ruled over by the Hemming family for several centuries.
King Julian Hemming, 24, is the current monarch of the North American wolf kingdom. His wolf is named Onyx.
