Library Card

How do you get a free library card?

  • A free library card is free to anyone who works in and/or lives in Gibson County.
  • In order for anyone 18 years of age and older to receive a library card, they must fill out an application, provide a valid photo ID, and a piece of delivered mail or legal document with their current address.
  • We also offer library cards to children from age birth to 17 years old. The child must also have an application filled out and consent from their parent or guardian in order to receive their library card. The parent/guardian of the child must also obtain a library card here at Gibson County Memorial Library.
  • If a library card is lost or needs to be replaced for any reason, they can be replaced for a fee of $1.00 for the first, $2.00 for the second, and $5.00 for the third and there after.

What can you do with your free library card?

  • With a free library card, a diverse collection of materials for education and entertainment, and so much more is offered to you! In addition to traditional books, audio books, and movies, we have a large collection of free downloadable books as well as free access to a large array of databases for residents of all ages.
  • A total of ten items can be checked out per card. Adults, 18 and older, are able to check out DVD and Blu-Ray Discs, four at a time.
  • In order to access these free items, the patron must present their library card to the Circulation Staff. A valid photo ID may be presented once a year to check out items from the library.
  • Patrons can also access many more books and audiobooks in an e-book format by using Tennessee R.E.A.D.S.
  • Patrons have access to terminals where they can print, use Microsoft programs, and explore the internet.
  • We also offer Inter Library Loans to our patrons. This is a service where we can request items, such as DVDs/Blu-rays, Books, and Audiobooks, for patrons that we do not have on our shelves here. If there is an item that we do not have, we will be more than happy to see if it is something that we can get through ILL.
