Nanbanjin (2011) The Barbarians from the South
" Nanbanjin " is how the ancient japanese during 1500 were calling the first europeans to land in the Japanese Islands, they were mainly christians fathers came to evangelize as Missionaries.This work refers to some of them who came from Sicily and Italy.Starting from a simple but positive misunderstanding that happened in the very first meetings between Saint Francisc Xavier and the Zen buddhist monks, the director is leading the wiewer towards a reflection about the “ first sight “ impressions freed from any cultural or political frames that usually interferes with the perception. This very first exchange was based on the idea that Buddhism was a sort of lost Christian sect and the same thought the Zen people had towards this stranger who they thought was an Indian buddhist since the Christian were sailing mostly from India.
The movie has been shot in a totally indipendent way in Sicily, Portugal and Japan.

“ Brecht ad Asakusa “ ( Asakusa no Brecht ) è un road movie musicale girato dal compositore e sassofonista Gianni Gebbia. Girato a Tokyo nel quartiere tradizionale di Asakusa, il film prende spunto da una fiction onirica tratta da una leggenda sul Budda del futuro Maitreya che appare in un cabaret di Asakusa e ci guida attraverso il mondo notturno degli artisti di una delle zone più pittoresche della vecchia Edo in seguito divenuta Tokyo.
Il quartiere di Asakusa è stato cantato da innumerevoli poeti e scrittori ed in esso si sono formate molte delle star dell’entertainment giapponese dagli anni 30 fino ad oggi con il regista Takeshi Kitano che vi ha compiuto i suoi primi passi .
Questo quartiere è considerato il simbolo del “ mondo fluttuante “ delle passioni e dei desideri ma anche del mondo compassionevole della religiosità perchè vi si trova uno dei più grandi templi del Giappone, meta di pellegrini e turisti sin dai tempi più antichi.
Girato senza un particolare intento documentaristico il film ci mostra una serie di artisti che reinterpretano gli stilemi classici del cabaret storico franco tedesco unendoli alla tradizione giapponese.
