I’m pleased to announce that my iBook Portland’s Japantown Revealed was just named “Best Textbook” at the 2015 International iBooks Author Conference. “The iBAs“ are the only peer-nominated, peer-voted awards for best-in-class achievement with Apple’s iBooks Author. Here's a demo:
How I created it
I found archival photographs that met two criteria: 1. They had to include architecture that still existed and 2. have historical Japanese Americans prominently in the image.
I printed out a hard copy of the historical image and went to location and tried to take a photo from exactly the same angle using my iPhone.
Back at my computer I used Keynote to align both the historical and contemporary images. Then I exported the two aligned and cropped images from Keynote as jpgs. (By using Keynotes transparency adjustment I was able to get them perfectly aligned) Here's a post that describes how I used Google slides to align two images and export for use in another then and now project.
With the two matched images historical and contemporary I went to Bookry and used their Reveal widget to create a widget for import into iBooks Author.
