Pop Up Restriction: Windows 7, MS Office Word (FIX)

Problem: An error pop-up, "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions", this is the only result after after clicking on web link in Microsoft Word.

First attempt:

Browse To:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html

1. Change the value from "FireFoxHTML" to htmlfile (or from ChromeHTML to htmlfile)
   • Repeat for the .htm, shtml, .xht, .xhtml, .xhtm keys
   • Change the value from "FireFoxHTML" to htmlfile (or from ChromeHTML to htmlfile)
   • Repeat for the .htm, shtml, .xht, .xhtml, .xhtm keys
2. An easy way to accomplish the aforementioned is to download this file (right click, Save Link as...) Then double click on the file to run it, then be sure to restart Windows system.

Second attempt, this fixed the problem.:

1. Problem was a corrupt registry key in Internet Explorer, actually the needed key wasn't there, it had to be installed. The registry key is at: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\htmlfile\shell\open\command
1. Replace the corrupt key [missing key in my case], using this registry file. Right click on the link and choose Save target as then double click on it to run it.
