ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) is one of the premier standards-holding organizations in educational technology (you might have even been to an ISTE Conference or two!). Currently, ISTE is working to develop the next generation of computing education standards that establish a vision for the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that educators need to effectively teach computer science and computational thinking to all students and function as a guide to professional learning for all educators, particularly those who are new to computer science. Learn more about this revision here.
The standards include consideration of the computational thinking principles as well as cybersecurity principles. ISTE and CSTA collaborated to publish the Computational Thinking Teacher Resources in 2011 with generous support from the National Science Foundation. The nine computational thinking concepts were excerpted from this booklet (www.iste.org/computational-thinking).
