SCHOOL YEAR 2018/2019

September

Write about your summer holidays and focus on comparing it to your previous holidays. Write 150+ words.

October

Choose an important personality that already passed away and write a 50+ description of that person. You may not use any words (except articles) that start with one of the letters in the personality's surname.

November

Write a short ghost story of 10+ clauses but the only verbs you can use are phrasal verbs. (Just to clarify, clause is a small grammatical structure that includes a subject and a verb. A sentence can have more clauses. This month's task is one sentence with three clauses - write, can, are.)

December

GCHD Syndrome. Come up with a new meaning for the acronym GCHD and describe what this new syndrome means. Inspiration can be found here.

January

The last year (2018) was a year full of anniversaries. But is this one really lacking in this field? Choose an event that will have an anniversary in 2019 (10, 20, 25, 50, 100, ... years) and write a short text for it that the event could use when applying to be chosen as a worthy event of celebrating in 2019. Yes, we are pretending the event is a living being here so your task is to basically write a "why choose me" text for it. Use 100+ words.

February

Record a flipgrid video about a place you like and you think other students from our school might appreaciate. It can be a nice quiet place for learning, a good restaurant with affordable prices a place where one can relax and hang out with friends, etc. Record a 1-2 minute long video and upload it to flipgrid here - https://flipgrid.com/c5fb763d .

March

Create a poster about an actor/actress that won an oscar for the best actor/actress or the best supporting actor/actress in the year you were born. Format: A3 or A4. Images. Personal info, info about the movie. The visual side is important (ie. it must look good).

April

Find the keys to all the locks to win the April challenge! Good Luck.

May

A bit of a vocabulary challenge this time. Start by writing a word of at least 9 letters (the longer the better). Next for each letter in that word come up with a word that ends with that letter while also making sure the words are increasing in length. So for the first letter, use a 1-letter word, for the second letter, use a 2-letter word etc. Any words that are not proper nouns that are in this dictionary are fair game.

Example: The chosen word is ISLE.

  • I
  • A S
  • A L L
  • F A T E

June

For the last challenge this year, your task is to create a Kahoot and share it with me (my username: MichalProkopec).

There are several requirements:

  1. Correctness of spelling and grammar
  2. 10-20 questions
  3. Images where applicable
  4. Make sure you actually use English
  5. Topic from the list below
    1. World / domestic events during this school year
    2. June events in history
    3. City / cities in English speaking countries
    4. Endangered species
    5. Technology innovations / breakthroughs

You may also try a topic of your choice but if I find it too simple you may not get any points :(

Looking forward to seeing and playing your Kahoots!

SCHOOL YEAR 2017/2018

September

Write a poem or a rap song based on your summer experience / travels.

At least 16 lines.

October

October is the month of Halloween. Draw inspiration from your GCHD experience and write a short spooky story of 150+ words.

November

Create a crossword (something like this, but not about chemistry ;) ) with at least 20 words and about one of these topics: School, the UK, History or Mathematics.

The real challenge here is to make the crossword challenging for your peers - not too easy, not too hard.

December

Winter is here and with it Christmas. Most children are told that the presents they get are from Baby Jesus / Santa / Father Christmas etc., and only later do they find out the (disappointing) truth. Do you remember what things were like in your family when you were in that age? What have you been told? How did you figure out the truth? How did you react? Will you use the same approach as your parents when you get into their position? Answer some or all of these questions in a short essay of 150-200 words.

January

Create a kahoot in English that we could play with your class. The topic is up to you, if you keep it within reasonable bounds. Want ideas? Pop-Culture / US VIPs / Famous movies / Events of 2017 / Class specific topic / etc.

How to do it? Go to kahoot.com, sign-up, create the kahoot and share it with me (click on share and type my username = michalprokopec)

This is a challenge that might be worth more than the usual maximum.

February

Make an A4 poster about an english speaking writer. Include a picture, short biography, list of works, extra details (less known information, film adaptations etc.) and a short extract from one of their novels/poems/short stories.

The visual aspect of the poster is important. It must be worthy of being presented ;)
