The greenhouse people, the plant sorters (scouts & adults). Most of all thanks to the customers, since most do not have kids in the troop.

April 2011 - Toledo Backpacking

The April campout we went out to Oak Openings just west of Toledo, Ohio. We did a back packing trip, hiking about nine miles to the camp site on Saturday. The camp site was real nice except that we were about two miles from Toledo airport (a little noisy when the planes took off). Sunday morning after breakfast we back packed about three mile back to the trucks. On the way home we stopped at “The Bass Pro Shop”, got some lunch and headed home. Out side of some sore feet, backs, and legs we all had a great time.

March 2011 - Beaumont

We went out to Camp Beaumont, it rained all day Saturday and turned into snow over night waking up Sunday morning to six inches of new snow on the ground. This was the first campout for the new scouts to the troop, and we also invited the Webelos out for the weekend. On Saturday morning we took a tour of the camp, in the afternoon we went over to the commissary for the boys to learn some knot tying. Saturday evening we did some orienteering throughout the camp. Everyone had a great time over the weekend.

February 12, 2011 - Klondike Derby

We went to the “Klondike Derby” that the district puts on for the Troops in the area. Bringing three of our new scouts, which crossed over only a couple days before the Klondike, the boys had a great day. Scoring high in all the events, the competition between all the troops was tight, we are happy to say that we came in 5th place in the events, and 3rd place in the sled race. We all had a great time.

January 2011- Winter Camping

We went to Camp Firelands for our January Campout; we all stayed in a cabin except for Kyle B.

Kyle earned his polar bear patch by staying outside for 18 hours and slept in a tent.

It was very cold outside, we woke up Saturday morning and it was minus one degree outside. We went on a hike in the morning to check out the camp, and went sled riding in the afternoon. It was so cold out that the milk and orange juice in the cooler was frozen. We had great meals and had a great time.

December 2010 - Painting the way to Eagle!

December 2010 Camp Tuscazoar

We went to Camp Tuscazoar over December 10th – 12th, 2010. We rented a cabin and found out that the camp master was staying above us in the same cabin. On Saturday morning, we went in to Dover to the Werther Museum, the museum had hand carved trains to the finest details. In the afternoon we went over to President McKinley’s Memorial and museum. After we got back to camp, we went on a hike down to a dam on the Tuscarawas River, located on the back side of the camp. We had a great time and the boys want to go back next year. - Mr. B

Nov 16, 2010 Once an Eagle always an Eagle

Robert Blazak the Troop's 4th Eagle (1955) & his sister Sue stopped by the troop meeting and spoke to the troop and other guests about their life growing up in Parma Hts. and Hinckley. Mr. Blazak shared memories of his scouting days, many of which involved his father who served as Scoutmaster. Mr. Blazak encouraged the scouts to start writing down their experiences in Scouting, and possibly create a book sharing their adventures with the world. This would have helped in writing ‘Only God Can Make A Buzzard’

2010 Yard Charge - Do a good turn!

Yard Charge was on November 13, 2010. Boy Scout troop 263 and Cub Scout Pack 263 and with the help from Dan Varn, the District Executive, we cleaned up 16 yards in the city of Cleveland, helping out the elderly. Some yards were easy and others were more of a challenge, in one yard, we had 48 bags of leaves. After several hours of raking we took the scouts to Wendy’s for a meal.

November 5-7, 2010 camp out

We camped at Camp Butler. The Scouts had to build there own shelters, and plan there own meals. Friday night, when we were setting up the shelters it was snowing, we got about 3 inches of snow. Some of the shelters leaked badly as the snow was melting (we made a trip to the laundry mat to dry out some sleeping bags on Saturday morning). Everyone had to prepare there own meals, they made some good meals, from hot dogs to foil meals over the fire. Thanks to Adam and Kyle and some of the other Scouts getting a lot of wood, we had a huge bon fire on Saturday night.

This was the firs time the boys got the experience to work with other scouts from a different troop as a team. The boys participated in several events from knot tying to first aid to relay races and other events. The meals were great, pancakes for breakfast and a barbecued chicken dinner in the Dutch ovens.

Scout Takes a Major Step Towards Eagle

Sunny A. has taken a major step on the Trail to Eagle. With help from Scouts, Parents, and the City of Strongsville the vast part of his Eagle leadership project is complete. His project involved painting fire hydrants along some of Strongsville’s major roads. Some of the work involved splitting into a white (top) & a dark pine (bottom) team to paint the fireplugs. These teams must have made quite a site for those driving by as they walked along in their safety vests with cans of paint, wet brushes, and wagons of supplies between stops.

2010 Summer Camp, July 4-10 2010

We had a great summer camp this year, with the boys completing dozens of merit badges including rifle shooting, archery, cooking, basketry and others. The weather was real hot, in the mid 90s all week, and the only way to cool down was to either go to Beaumart camp store with A/C, or hit the pool in the afternoon, although there was some rain on Friday. On family night we had fifteen family members come out in the evening including our District Commissioner for some good food and entertainment, the boys did a skit at the camp fire later in the evening. On Thursday afternoon we went down to watch some of the boys launch the rockets they made for the space merit badge, when Ben launched his rocket the first time, it went out of sight, we found it about two hundred yard away with the tip of the rocket buried two inches into the ground. We also made an oven out of a cardboard box and tin foil, during the week we baked four cakes and some brownies, boy were they good.

After a twelve year run, this is the last “summer camp” at Beaumont, for a period of time, we are going to try some other camps in the area so the boys can get a different experience at other camps. We would like to thank all of the leaders from the troop that gave up all there time to spend with the boys so they can get the experience of summer camp.

Summer Camp, July 5-11, 2009

Camp Beaumont: Aspen Glen: The troop lucked out with a dry week this year, allowing for more opportunities to work on advancement. One scout completed his mile swim despite visiting the med-center the night before. Another aquatic achievement was reached during instructional swim, when another scout made swimmer. Special thanks goes to our three leaders that made it possible by staying the entire week, and cooking various delicacies on site.

Memorial Day May 25, 2009

We did our annual movement of the chairs (storage to front lawn and back). The Plain Dealer had an article on Parma South's Memorial Day observance beginning 141 years ago. Once again this year we had our Cub Scouts helping us with the work, Thank You! It was a good day not too hot/cold, & the chairs did not sink into the lawn.

A Cool Campout Nov 14-15, 2008

Our troop decided to go to Punderson State Park to camp. We were going to go to Beaumont, but they road repairs in camp. On Friday when we arrived the weather was fine until around 1 a.m.! Everyone was surprised that the tents were not leaking all night and day! When everyone got up two tents were in a puddle! We made a delicious breakfast with peppers, onions, eggs, and a side of hashbrowns. We cleaned up and went on a hike. Since it was muddy in the grass we hiked the side of the road. We did walk on a path that was very muddy! After a few hours hiking we got back to the camp. For lunch we had a couple peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with chips. When we were done we found out we were leaving after supper, due to dropping temperatures. Everyone was disappointed. Before supper we watched the fire and retired two American Flags. We made a Dutch oven pizza. We cleaned up, packed all of our stuff, and loaded it into the cars. We had fun at Punderson State Park! -- Paul G

Oct 12, 2008

Took time out from selling popcorn to help with a water/Ultima station for the 17th Annual Towpath Marathon. We then took a short hike on the Plateau Trail. Was the 200ft elevation change all on one hill? Thanks to all that helped.

The Great weekend of September 19-21, 2008

This weekend we went Camping in Brecksville, Ohio. It was for our annual fall Camporee, with other local Boy Scout Troops. We had a great time doing fun activities the district set up for us! We were in the race first place over all the troops! But unfortunately we didn't get first place this year. It was a lot of fun! On Sunday about 1 A.M. (the second 1 o'clock in a day, mabe the first depending on how you look at it) you could hear all of the animals outside looking for a snack. But it was still fun when we had a glow stick fight in the field next to all of our tents. During the closing campfire, we all had fun doing a skit. The best of them all was someone we call Banjo Guy! He plays the banjo really well. We can't wait until next year! --by Paul G

After a buffet breakfast, we headed to the marina where we boarded boats to go to the canoe base. After a refreshing dip in the water for a swim recheck in 55&degF water, and an overview of our route, we prepared to set out on our week long trek. We loaded up the canoes with all our gear, and dehydrated food. We were on the river through Friday, when the guides left us for a night on our own. The next day, we found our way back to the base where we feasted on spaghetti. The next day we loaded up the boats and returned to the marina. We road the bus back, and returned at about 9:00 p.m.

One if by land two if by sea? Yes its true. We went to Findley State Park. One group did a day hike, while our Tinnerman 2008 crew did an overnight. Both groups had issues staying upright & dry!

April 4-6, 2008

The weekend at Camp Beaumont was cold, but with enough hot chocolate we were able to get through. While the younger scouts toured the camp and worked on advancement, the older scouts did a little hiking and remembered what it was like when they were tenderfoots. Saturday we had a warming fire, and did some gourmet cooking in plastic bags.

Thank You leaders that stayed the weekend!

Feb 29-March 1, 2008

What a weekend! Fri night was a Fish Dinner at the Chartering organization. It looks like the

dinner was popular. The dinner started at 5pm, with the last of the Scouts leaving, after cleanup, close to 9pm. After going home for a quick nap, it was back to the church at 4:45AM (yes there are two 4:45s in a day). We made a quick drive to the USAF Museum in Dayton. We got there just before it opened at 9am. We signed up for the presidential hanger tour and were on the 1st bus of the day. We experienced the museum in small groups until 3pm before making the drive back to the church.

Thank You Drivers!
