The Greater Cincinnati Athletic Trainers' Association would like to pay tribute to one of the early pioneers of this profession, in the Cincinnati area. We would like to honor the late great Bill Walker. Mr. Walker oversaw healthcare for UC Bearcats' student-athletes over a span of almost 32 years. Prior to joining the staff at UC, he served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Shreveport Steamers of the World Football League. He is a Past President of the GCATA and was Inducted into the Ohio Athletic Trainer's Association Hall of Fame in 1998. Earned the National Athletic Trainers' Association Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award in 2011. He was also inducted in to the James P. Kelly UC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. He is a Vietnam Veteran in the U.S. Army, and decorated with the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and Vietnam Service Medal (3 stars). This is award shall be given out annually by the Executive Board Members to one individual. In order to receive this award, one must be of High Moral Character, Contribute to the AT Community, Positive Role Model for others and Promote Athletic Training. It is with great pleasure and our privilege to be able to recognize an individual that has displayed these traits and characteristics in honor of Mr. Bill Walker.
