Next meeting will be Wednesday May 7 at 7:30pm at the Goodhue Lion’s.
Here are a couple things that came up in the meeting last week that need to be shared before the end of the month.
Club ATV trip: Treyben is also proposing a club ATV trip to Emily, MN July 18-20th. At the meeting there were minimal people interested with already busy schedules. If you are interested, let Treyben know in the next week and we can figure out accommodations. If he doesn't hear back he may still book a solo trip there or he might go all the way up to Ely as this will be a back to back to back trip for him. After the club trip weekend he is heading straight to Voyageurs NP and then a cabin in Effie, MN. Treyben's number is 651-380-8370.
2nd topic: We are looking at bringing the skid out of retirement and having an ATV Pull sometime this summer. In order to do that we need to have a day of play/work to see what we need to do to get the skid working. We are going to have a work/play day on Saturday April 19 at my place (where skid is stored). We will start about 10:30am and then grill out also. If anyone would like to bring a dish to pass also that would be great. My address is 25179 390th St. Goodhue. 1/2 mile north and then 1 mile west of Bellechester.
3rd topic: *ATV safety training class will be May 4 at 11am in Goodhue. To register your kids please email Paula Wagner at operationpaula@gmail.com. *Meeting with MN Dot about snowmobile trails. They want the clubs to have $1.5 million insurance limit. Right now all the clubs have $1 million. That would cost about $800 more per club. The trail association president talked to the county agent. It would cost the association about $5000 to increase all the insurance. They have accepted $1 million just for this year. Still waiting to see if the county will release the rest of the trail funds for this season.

They were discussing the need for clubs to get Limited Use Permit signed for MN DOT right of ways. The issue did start with the new round about in Goodhue and our trail crossing it. They have to draft up the paperwork yet. Supposed to have a form for each time touch right of ways. They will work on a 2 year agreement. Once done the grant money will be released. Steve and Ray were at meeting, Derek was online. Also along the state highways at night sleds need to go with traffic. If trail goes along, there must be a permit signed so traffic can go both ways. Lots of questions yet. May need forms for State, county, & possibly townships. Todd Greseth, commissioner told Steve to leave our trail along Highway 58 in for now.

*MN USA fall workshop report by Bill Gehn our region 5 representative: 1. All landowners who have CRP will be getting a letter saying if there is any damage to the CRP the landowners are responsible. We need to let any of our trail landowners know that the snowmobiles don’t cause damage because they are going over frozen ground, but if there is a problem the club will cover it. 2. Not many sleds were registered last year because of no snow, so there may be a decrease in the full bench mark we get from the DNR this year for the grant-in-aid trails. 3. There are no trail improvement grants this year. 4. They are working on getting custom licensed plates for cars/trucks with the theme of snowmobiles. 5. The lawyers recommend that with the use of “caution signs” on the trails they actually say on them what the caution is- ditch, culvert, bridge, curve. And to not over use the caution signs so people don’t pay attention to them. 6. MN USA has a new updated website. 7. Veterans Ride in Feb. – clubs can sponsor a veteran by donating $225. 8. Snowmobile Trails | Pauls trail getting lots of ATV traffic and running over signs. Look to move the trail to the top of the old railroad grade. The trail is technically only a snowmobile trail and not an official ATV trail. Given the Zumbrota club has the snowmobile trail and not us, Ray will discuss with them about paying for this work. If not, bring back to the table to discuss possibility of us paying for the work. Discussed pulling trails early due to lack of snow and gave report from MNUSA and MNDNR discussions. Basically, the DNR said we are free to pull signs early however if we are to get enough snow to open trails, then we would be expected to resign the trail to open it, as it is the responsibility of being a GAI trail and getting funding that the trails be operational Dec 1 through April 1. Several of our sections to get pulled next week.
Landowner gifts | Paul has the certificated printed and Paula will get them to the trail bosses soon.
Veterans Ride | Read letter. Due to lack of snow they were not able to put on the ride so our donation will be segregated for this purpose of future rides.
MNUSA Winter Rondevou | No report/attendance.
ATV Club Trip | Discussed options: Birchwood, WI June 21-23 or Merrillan, WI July 19-21. Trip to be at Docs Bunkhouse in Merrillan, WI July 19-21st. Ray motioned, Trent 2nd, motion carried. Make your own bookings at Docs Bunkhouse ASAP, 715-299-2865. Hope you all can make it!
ATV Raffle & Ride | In order to save money before price increases, we held a board vote last month to purchase a machine from M&M for $15,521, saving us $2,400. Trey to get permit signed with City 3/13, so likely looking to get it back and be able to start selling tickets around mid to late April.
ATV Safety Class | Date set for May 5th. Paul motioned, Trent 2nd, motion carried. Ray to work on getting copy of keys for the shed before the day of class. To register your kids for class, please email Paula Wagner at operationpaula@gmail.com. The class is for kids ages 10-15, however the certificate is not valid until their 12th birthday. The kids must do the online training and pass that test before coming to our class. Anyone born after July 1, 1987 must have a safety certificate to ride public land and trails.
Taxes | Tony filed 990N. Rew federal requirements but don’t think the Beneficial Ownership Information Report applies to us. Will hold unless more information is requested.
Banking | Discussed switching checking accounts to interest bearing checking accounts. Only restriction is that it has a $2,500 min balance. Tiered rates, with our balances we would be looking at around $450 interest annually. Paul motioned, Trent 2nd, motion carried.
Meeting adjourned. Paul motioned, Ray 2nd, motion carried

Christmas Party update | 20 members attended and the food was great. Thanks everyone for some good times. Thanks to the club, AG Partners, Kevin’s Service, Treyben Kehren, and Paula Wagner for donations for door prizes. M&R donations brough in $130 with help of Dale Nord.

Club Snowmobile Trip | Not much snow anywhere, cancelling idea for the year. Do hope to get this going again one of these years.
Vintage Ride update | 45 sleds with 22 different registrants. Income: $345 entry, $320 door prizes, $225 M&R donations, $251 food donation, total $1141. Expenses: $275 building rent, $113 to Duke Bjorklund, $110 for prizes, $254.48 for trophies, $180.09 for food, total $932.57. Overall profit $208.43. Had some people travel a fair bit and said they liked our show. Door prizes started early, leaving out people that went to the bar thinking it was at 1, need to stay on schedule next year. We feel we get decent participation for the show, but we don’t get much to any spectators. Thought was that maybe a change in venue is needed otherwise some additional entertainment to bring people into the Lions Building to draw spectators from the community. Discussion around having it at the Corner Bar next year like we used too but with some parking on 2nd Street blocked for the show sleds or shut down 2nd Ave like we do for the ATV ride.
Snowmobile Safety Class update | we had 22 kids take the class. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the class: Doris Ryan, Tony McDonald, Steve VanDeusen, Ben & Addie Poncelet, Mike Klindworth, David Sherer, Ben O’Connor, Katie & Ethan & Carleen Weckerling and our Certified Safety Instructors Derek Weckerling, Ray Hadler, Treyben Kehren, and Paula Wagner. Also thanks to the officers who helped: DNR officer Derek Schneider, GCSO Jordan Winberg, and GCSO Mike Ayres. Thank you for your service! Thanks to the Lions Club for the use of the building, the city for driving course, and Kim Carlson for storage of the props. It truly does take a village to teach our kids to be safe while having fun!

MN USA- Bill Gehn gave an update about what is going on in MN USA: There are new registration stickers for the sleds- they will no longer require the numbers on the sled, just the sticker. If you need the new sticker and yours aren’t expired yet, you can get a duplicate for $6 so you have the new sticker. There are changes in the executive board: Mark Cavanaugh was president and Mike Clevenger was VP, but Mark resigned and so Mike is now the President. So they had an emergency meeting in Dec. to vote on new VP- Scottie Harder. They are working on a new website. For Region 5 (which is our region) Paul Marosca is president, Bill Gehn is Vice-President. The Winter Rendezvous is at Thumber Pond in Otter Tail Feb. 8-11
