In Feb'72 Amtrak attempted to bring High speed train service on the B&O
between Wash DC and Parkersburg, WVA .
---Gee, I cant believe that wasnt a success---
It had a few nicknames The WVa Rocket-and more common Harleys Hornet
for Harley Staggers the W.Va politician who had a hand in approving Amtrak routes.
It disappeared from the B&O route by the middle of May'72
Do to the mountains and many curves the train couldnt do any high speed running.
The first weekend run I caught the turbo coming and going west at Kensington, Md
Feb 72

at the B&O Silver Spring, Md station in March '72
Next stop Union Station Washington DC

Leaving Union Station in Wash DC the westbound turbo would pull out east on the
Capitol div trackage to old F tower then reverse direction and head west past QN tower
onto the Metropolitan Div and then onto Parkerburg, WVa
Potomac Turbo at F tower waits for signal to roll west

The last time I saw the turbos was in the late 70's, their were 3 sets lined up at Ivy City Terminal
in Wash DC. Their was rumor that Amtrak was trying to sell them off
to the then new MARC commuter agency. They would have looked nice in the
original MARC scheme Orange/black/white/silver.
Luckily MARC went with rebuilt B&O F7 cab units and xPRR & NW passenger cars
