GATEway conducts free workshops to teach elementary-aged students and their parents how to do a science fair project. We need guest scientists and science-knowledgeable high school students to help us run these workshops.
This webpage is for workshop volunteers. If you are interested in registering as a participant, see our Workshops webpage.

Guest scientists should have a scientific background at the college level or higher.
Each workshop opens with an informational presentation on what makes a good science fair project and how to lay out a project board.
After the informational presentation, guest scientists will guide a small group of participants through simple sample experiments using the scientific method, perform mock reviews and brainstorm ideas for participants' own science fair projects. All materials, scripts and training are provided. Below is the count down for number of scientists still needed per session.

High school student volunteers will help set up, check-in participants, assist the guest scientists during the experiments, participate in mock reviews, talk with attendees about their project ideas and help tear down. The roster is below.
Inclement weather policy: Please don't feel obliged to come if you feel the roads are too unsafe to travel. We will assess the weather two hours before the workshop. If we decide we must cancel the class because of weather, we will post it on our website and send an email and/or phone to warn you of the cancellation. If Rochester Public Schools are closed, and/or they cancel after school activities due to inclement weather, the workshop will be cancelled.
