Gary's Home Place

Intro

So many things have changed in my life since I first put up this website, including where it has resided. Hopefully the links below will be of some interest to you as they sure have been to me over the years.

I'm trying my best to get this back up and running with all links working again.

Hope you enjoy.

50th Anniversary

Yep, I've been married over 50 years. Not sure how that happened since I'm only 39? We celebrated 25 years by taking a week long cruise around the Hawaiian Islands, with an extra 2 days spent on land.

So, for our 50th, we decided to spend 1 week on Oahu and 1 week on Maui. We rented a car on both islands and just did what we wanted, when we felt like it. Sort of made up for all the vacations we never got to take over the years. We had a wonderful time and did not want to come home. Here is a link to the slide shows/videos that I put together of that trip.

Weather

Here is a link to

Backyard Remington Weather

which is continuously reporting the current conditions in my backyard.

I have had an interest in weather ever since I got involved with my "strange" hobby that you can read about below, but every time I bought a weather station, it just didn't work right. I would either need to change batteries a lot, or maybe the outside unit would not be able to send the signal into my house through the walls, or a host of other things. I finally decided that when I retired I was going to spend the money and get one that works and works well. I settled on a Davis Vantage Pro sending unit and Console. I was so pleased with the unit after installing it upstairs in my hallway, I just had to have another console for downstairs where I do a lot of my work, so I also bought a Davis Vantage Vue Console. Both Consoles receive the data from the single transmitting station that I have installed about 20 feet above the ground behind my shed. I LOVE this thing and it was worth every penny that I spent to buy it.

GPS

If you are interested in GPS units and their use, then the following links will provide you with lots of information about the actual units and software availability.

I first went to this site way back when everyone just referred to it as Joe and Jack's site. Tons of information. gps information

Here is one more with all sorts of information. GPS Resources

I had bought a handheld GPS to use with my strange hobby (farther down on this page), but now use my GPS receiver to "play" a game. It's really an excuse to get out and do some hiking and go places that I probably never would have without this. There are things you can do that don't require a hike also.

Human Powered Vehicles

Ever wanted to know something about those funny looking bikes that people look like they are sitting in an easy chair while riding? They are called recumbents. I haven't had a chance to ride one yet, but some day....

Bicycle Information

Here is a link to a site that gives information about some local bike trails in the Northern Virginia area. The site also has links to other bike related stuff. Why my fascination with bikes? See the next couple of links.

Bicycle Trips On The C&O Canal

If your into hiking OR biking, how about a trip up or down the historic C & O Canal Towpath.

Want to see information on a couple of MY TRIPS on the Canal Towpath?

My High School

Ever wonder what happened to an old High School classmate? When I started my quest there were quite a few free sites to go and try to find them. Now, everyone wants money. Sad thing is that even though you may pay, you most likely will still have to go through their site and never really "find" your classmate. There have been many a site come, and many a site go, so I won't even being to list any here. There a lot of new things like Facebook, Twitter, Google searches and many other that are free that you can try to locate old friends and classmates.

If you just happen to be from Washington-Lee High School, check out their homepage.

If you just happen to be from the Class of 1966, then be sure to visit our homepage on the web

Strange Hobby

Starting in 1981, I had a part time job/hobby that's a little different than most.

Wanna see some examples?

I have been playing around in another hobby.

RC Helicopters and Planes.

If I can take time to upload my videos on that front, I'll post the link here.

Until then, you have to take my word for it that I really can fly them.

I didn't say well, just that I could.

My Fortune (I wish!)

Got an old Virginia lottery ticket that you haven't checked the numbers yet? Hey, everyone has a dream!

Parting Words

Well, that's it for now. Hopefully I will find the time to update this page with some pictures and other sites of interest.
