Varsity Head Coach: Chris Custer

Chris Custer enters his first year with the Jaguars having spent the last five years at Garnet Valley with the girls soccer program. Coach Custer is a Health and Physical Education teacher in the district who mostly traveled from the high school to Bethel Springs elementary but now works solely with high school students.

While working at Garnet Valley, Chris spent over a year with the Philadelphia Union Youth Academy where he has his own youth team and trained the goalkeepers whose ages ranged from 10-18. Prior to his time with both GV and the Union, Custer was a collegiate coach at the DIII and DI levels. From 2013-2016, he was an Assistant Coach for the Men's Soccer team at St. Lawrence University working under DIII NCAA National Coach of the Year, Bob Durocher. While at SLU, they won three Liberty League titles and entered the NCAA National Tournament three times which included two sweet-16 appearances and one elite-eight appearance. While coaching the Saints, Custer earned his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.

Following his time at SLU, Chris became an assistant coach for Trevor Gorman at DI UAlbany. While with the Great Danes, the team won the Universities first ever American East league title and made their first appearance in the NCAA National Tournament. During this season, UAlbany had notable wins over #2 Syracuse University and #12 Boston College and made it all the way to the sweet-16 where they eventually fell to #3 Clemson University.

Throughout his college coaching career, Custer had several opportunities to work with professional teams and learn from some of the best goalkeeper and field coaches in the world. He spent time with the Portland Timbers and their youth academy, as well as the Ottawa Fury in Canada. Most notably, Chris was invited to attend an international goalkeepers conference in Bilderburg, Ned where he was trained by the goalkeeper coaches from Juventus, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Benfica.

Prior to his coaching career, Custer played at DII Lock Haven University where he earned his Health and Physical Education Degree as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Coaching.

Chris now resides at a farm in West Grove, PA with his wife Bethany where they raise their son Nekoda and their twin daughters Cordelia and Sloan.

Varsity Assistant Coach: Joe Forwood

Joe Forwood will be going into his second year as the GVBS Varsity Assistant Coach where he has focused on the goalkeepers, as he has for many years. Coach Forwood is a paraprofessional within the Garnet Valley School District and has spent the past four years working alongside students of all backgrounds and needs. Throughout his years of experience, Joe has shown exemplary strength in coaching, conflict resolution, team building, problem solving, and fundraising. Alongside his work with GV, Joe Forwood is the Pastor at Siloam United Methodist Church where he has been working with adults and youth in ministry for over four years.

Before coming to Garnet Valley, Coach Joe spent 24 years working in the juvenile justice industry for Glen Mills Schools until it was closed several years ago. While at Glen Mills, he developed an educational path for all students. From start to finish of a student's time at Glen Mills, Forwood was diligent in his care for each individual and helped each individual strive to become a better student and individual. Joe and his wife Lisa are proud parents of Lindsey, Lacey, and Luke. They are also blessed to have four beautiful grandchildren, Travis, Aria, Kaiden, and Reid.

JV Head Coach: Evan Morgan

Evan starts his first year with the boys soccer team this year but he is not a stranger to Garnet Valley School District. Before taking his current position as a Guidance Counselor at Ridley High School, Morgan was a paraprofessional for GVSD.

Coach Morgan spent several years working with soccer players at the club, high school, and collegiate levels. Throughout his life, Evan has been involved with soccer as a player and a coach. First, he spent four years as a DIII player at Neumann University. Following his time as a player, Evan was hired as the NU Assistant Coach for three years.

In 2020, Evan transitioned to his counselor career at Ridley and was hired as a coach for the boys soccer team while working for the school district.

Evan is incredibly passionate about providing quality training sessions for his players and fostering the complete athlete to compete at an elite level. His attitude and knowledge will be beneficial to the entire Garnet Valley Boys Soccer team, especially the Junior Varsity team.
