This is a friendly, casual league, where the main purposes are fun and exercise. The league will be functioning at its best if these rules need never be enforced.
Minor penalties will be called at the judgement of the on-ice official. Captains will encourage all players to respect the calls of the official.
Minor penalties shall result in the offending player returning to the bench immediately and the player offended shall be awarded a penalty shot. Players are expected to respect the decision of the ref as final, and ensure the game resumes quickly. (Sept 28/2021)
A player must leave the game after receiving two separate minor penalties within a game. After two such suspensions, the Captains/Executive will meet to determine further penalty, if any.
A major penalty may be called for serious unsportsmanlike behaviour, or for a deliberate action which may lead to the injury of another player. A player receiving a major penalty must leave the game immediately and the player offended shall be awarded a penalty shot. (Sept 28/2021) The Captains will meet to determine any further disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the league.
Unintentional injury of another player: If the actions of a player result in the injury of another player and that player can no longer remain in the game due to the injury, the player that caused the injury must also leave the game.
A player will be suspended for multiple games, at the discretion of the Captains, for any incidence of fighting during a league or tournament game. If two players fight, both will be suspended, regardless of who instigated the fight. The players must leave the game immediately. Any player who drops his gloves with the intention to fight will be suspended for three games. (Jan 6/2004)
If a Captain or his designate asks a player on his team to leave the bench, the player must do so. Refusal will lead to further disciplinary actions as decided by the Captains.
Players who must miss a game can be replaced from a spares list. If you must miss a game, CALL YOUR CAPTAIN to tell him. A player who misses three games without notifying his Captain may be suspended from the league.
Players new to the league are on probation for the first year. If they have trouble adjusting to the style of the league, they may not be invited to play the following year.
NOTES ON PENALTIES: Bodychecking and slapshots are not allowed in this league. Bodychecking is not generally called when two players of the comparable ability are competing for the puck. Any deliberate move to hit another player will result in a a penalty - minor or major, depending on severity. A slapshot is called if the stick comes above the waist on the backswing. No penalty is called, but play is whistled down and the face off will be at the other end. The same call will be made for a faked slapshot.
