The Greencastle-Antrim School District currently offers two levels of Music Theory at the high school level. Typically, Music Theory I is offered in the fall and Music Theory II is offered in the spring. Music Theory I has no pre-requisites, whereas Music Theory II requires the completion of Music Theory I. Both courses can be used to satisfy elective requirements for graduation.
The goal of the Music Theory program is to develop the foundation needed for students to analyze and compose their own music. Students will learn about the basic fundamentals of music in a “hands-on” environment. Much like a mathematics course, music theory is sequential in nature and requires students to master one concept before moving on to the next.
