- Hamilton (Beaumont St) lots of choices, bus ride from downtown (most busses from Hunter St go to Tutor St and Beaumont St, or 100 bus to Maitland Rd and Beaumont)
- The Junction (bus down Darby St or walk along coast) lots of choices.

- nobbys SLSC, newcastle SLSC (if they are open in july)
coffee:

- Honeysuckle: Honeysuckle Hotel; James Squire; lots of other places; The Brewery goes off Fri/Sat nights.
- Hamilton: Depot (cocktails, nice place); several pubs along Beaumont St (all equally dodgy/character-filled -- Exchange, Northern Star, The Kent, Sydney Junction, Hamilton Station).
