There are two main areas with hotels and backpacker accommodation -- Newcastle East and Honeysuckle, both in walking distance to each other, and close to train stations. The conference venue is in Newcastle East for Monday-Thursday; Friday is at the University which is a train/bus ride from downtown. Honeysuckle is a popular area with lots of restaurants with great views across the harbour. See the map link.
