Spring, Texas
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Build Day:
3/21 10:00 AM @ Faith United Methodist side parking lot.
We will have several stations available to take your Scouts car kit from the design phase to race-ready. Design, cutting, sanding and shaping, weight tuning, wheel and axle polishing, painting... You can take advantage of all stations or just show up and get the help you need on the part you need. It is recommend to bring 2-3oz of weight to the build day. Success is largely dependent on weight and this is a great opportunity to try and get as close to 5oz as possible ! Weights may be purchased at the Scout Store, Hobby or simply be a common household item.
Early inspection and check-in times :
3/26 6:30 PM - Early Check-in during Pack Meeting
3/27 7:00 PM - Early Check-in during track set up
Scouts do not need to be in the room while their cars are racing but they must appear in-person on race day. Cars that do not have a Scout present on 4/13 will be disqualified.
Race Day :
3/28 9:15 AM - Check-in / Inspections
3/28 10:00 AM - Races begin
Faith United Methodist Church will be having their Spring Celebration on the same day from 9:00-12:00. Here's what you can look forward to in addition to the PWD... Petting Zoo, Bounce Houses, Kona Ice, Bake Sale and a Fish Fry (11 a.m.) !
Overview and Simplified rules. (Full rules available in PDF linked below)
The Pinewood Derby is open to all Cub Scouts, Parents & Me-Toos. Cars should be built by the Cub Scouts with some adult guidance. Any technical assistance should be fully explained to the Cub Scout so that they can use that knowledge on future projects. If you are a parent and would like to participate you may enter your car into the “modified” class where you do not have to abide by the official rules. Dad’s may even bring in their classic pinewood derby cars from their scouting days!
RULES:
Wheel bearings, washers, and bushings are prohibited.
The car shall not ride on springs.
Only official Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby wheels and axles are permitted.
Only dry lubricant is permitted.
Details, such as steering wheel and driver are permissible as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width and weight specifications.
The car must be free-wheeling, with no starting devices.
No part of the car may extend past the official starting mechanism
Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it may compete. If, at registration, a car does not pass inspection, the owner will be informed of the reason for failure, and will be given time within the official weigh-in time period to make the adjustment. After final approval, cars will not be re-inspected unless the car is damaged in handling or in a race.
