News/Things to Note
I am likely to be on a Sabbatical in the academic year 2027-2028, so I will not accept master thesis advising during that time period. I have no other leave plan at the moment (so, e.g., I'm planning to accept master thesis advising in the academic year 2026-27)
The research topic
Matching theory (or market design in similar markets). I am quite specialized in my research, so if you want to do something else, I advise you to choose a different advisor.
How I advise students
(1) I will have short and regular group meetings which everyone is required to attend. This year, I have an online meeting funded by ERATO this year, and our meeting will be substituted by this ERATO meeting. Tentative schedule: 12:20-1pm on Thursdays.
(2) UTMD has a weekly coffee hour and you are expected to attend it, though not necessarily every week. It’s possible that I may decide to substitute (1) with (2) depending on how well (1) and (2) goes. Tentative schedule: 12:10-1pm on Wednesdays.
(3) You need to attend microeconomics workshops (2nd period on Tuesdays). Also, the market design center (UTMD) hosts ad hoc seminars and workshops, and you are expected to attend them whenever possible.
(4) When you need an individual meeting, send a message to me so that we can schedule a meeting. Suggestion: 30 minute meeting every 2-3 weeks.
(5) We plan to have two (relatively formal) presentations (each 30 minutes or so), one in the summer (expect September) and another in January in front of me and possibly other micro faculty members. Everyone is required to present.
(6) Instruction language will be English except possibly for individual meetings or on some special occasion and you prefer to speak Japanese.
(7) In normal years, I will accept up to 2 students for master thesis advising every year. In exceptional circumstances, I may accept 3 students (or possibly more, though it's highly unlikely).
Selection Process:
(1) In-person guidance is optional for you because I have described the detail of the advising in this document, i.e., if you don’t have any questions, you don’t have to meet me for an in person guidance. If you have questions or if you want to hold an in-person meeting, then send inquiry at https://sites.google.com/site/fuhitokojimaeconomics/contact. The deadline for those actions is December 3, 2025.
(2) First, decide whether you want me as an advisor. If the answer is yes, then proceed to the items below.
(3) Enter a response at Google Form, https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdT8elFduR-1fZwepccK7sJiyXJ2SxUQV-hr_-jbm81dKp2Mg/viewform?usp=header. The deadline is December 15th, 2025.
(4) I will let you know about my intention by the end of December, i.e., given an unofficial admission/decline decision before the official matching process begins. NOTE: Even if I "admit" your application during the selection process described in this coment, you will still need to participate in the official application process separately.
