Foster Community Garden has 55 plots of 100 square feet each, either 10' x 10' or 5' x 20'. We have many longtime gardeners but occasionally plots do open up. Be prepared for wait of several months or more after you apply before receiving a plot.
The "regular" procedure for applying for a community garden plot is described below, but it is suspended until further notice. To be placed on our waitlist, send e-mail to fcgapplicationofficer@gmail.com. As mentioned above, be prepared for a lengthy wait for a garden plot at Foster Community Garden. We currently have a long waitlist, and garden plots do not open up very often.
Current gardeners who want to transfer to a different plot should send e-mail to fcgapplicationofficer@gmail.com, or speak with our City Community Garden Coordinator. You will be placed on a waitlist.
Attend our garden meeting.
Meetings are cancelled until further notice, but in non-pandemic times are held on third Saturdays, 10 a.m., inside Foster Botanical Garden at the building a short walk down the stone-lined path to the right after you enter.
Fill in the application at the meeting.
If there are no plots currently available, you will be placed on a waiting list and will need to attend subsequent meetings to obtain a plot.
You need to be present at the meeting to have a plot assigned to you.
Current gardeners who want to transfer to a different plot should send notify the Application Officer (e-mail fcgapplicationofficer@gmail.com or speak with the Appplication Officer). He will put your name on the waitlist and notify you when something opens up.
There are 10 community garden sites in the City's program. If the waiting list is too long at Foster Community Garden, you can check availability at one of the other gardens. Please see the Community Recreational Gardening Program page on the City and County of Honolulu website for a list of gardens and their meeting times.
The City's community garden program was established in 1975 to provide people living in Honolulu's densely populated communities access to garden plots. Fees are kept low to allow wide and diverse participation, fostering community spirit, environmental stewardship, and healthy living.
