1. We have a choice...even if it seems none exist.
2. It is not healthy to carry on at the expense of your health, so I suggest: quit the job.
3. Regardless of age or family status, you can quit and look for another job outside. The question is are you willing to forgo the relatively high pay?
4. I know a lot teachers do survey without thinking carefully. What you put down there affects each of us. So do your survey and write your comments carefully.
5. Speak up if you need to.There are also a lot of teachers who keep quiet during meeting, speak up if you need to. Keeping silent means consent.
6. Ask. When in doubts, ASK. We like to make assumptions and we like to speculate. Please don't. Always clarify even if you don't like your boss.
7. Make your intention known. During work reviews, state what you want in black and white in the officer's comment section. If you are not keen on leadership track, says so. If you want to 'climb' high high, also says so. Then you can get opportunities.
8. At the end of the day, we, all, have a choice. If teaching is not your cup of tea, if your health is affected, if your family is affected, if your WHOLE life is affected, DO something. Because it is your LIFE!

Hi
To a certain extent, it is indeed true. Those on leadership track are supposed to be promoted faster because they chart the vision for the dept/committee, shoulder more responsibilities and take up more roles.
However, our core business is teaching and we are supposed to be assessed on this basic role first.
Consider:
1. A teacher who is only good in teaching but dislike to lead.
2. A teacher who has leadership abilities (real or perceived) but no so good in pedadogy.
3. A teacher who is good at both.
Candidate 3 is the obivious choice when it comes to promotion. Candidate 1 vs 2 is ambigious but most likely 2 will get the promotion. There are threads in this forum that talk about the various criteria on promotion with reliable accuracy.
There are always black sheeps among us, be it P, VP, HODs, teachers etc. Hence, you need to make choices on how to deal with such people. The key message here is CHOICE.
There are two basic points for me:
1. I work hard for all my pupils. (However, i am no god, I can't save all, let's be realistic)
2. I work hard for bosses I respect. (Not all bosses deserved the same level of respect, got it? Not all leaders are true leaders too.)
By the way, earning the 1A2 grade means greater competitions and stricter appraisial at the end of the year. Sometimes, it is better off staying at 1A1. So again, it is a choice.
I must say that MOE HR system still has lots of rooms for improvement.
