Perseverance (with student comments in quotes)

Perseverance

“I did not expect to learn, or fully realize I guess, how perservering I am when it comes to my academic coursework. I have struggled with this class but your willingness to help and my endless number of opportunities to learn from my mistakes has helped me recognize my full potential for understanding the material.”

I could not be happier to have this comment because it really makes me feel successful in inviting students’ active participation and then helping them see, through a lot of maybe silly-seeming challenges, that they are much smarter than they knew and, for what they feel they might want to know more or better, they are more capable than they knew. I make my classes spaces for action, and I want that action to produce new realizations that the students should feel ownership of and pride in. So, this comment above warms my heart, and the rest is just icing on the cake.
