The Fishing Lesson: For many the Bellawein region is more than seascapes. It is the place of pilgrimage where the family as a unit creates the memories of belonging. "The Fishing Lesson" is just such a memory in the making. Father and son bonding; sharing time, passing on knowledge.
Encouragement Award
Winners - David Hobday & Cinnamon’s Art
$500 sponsored by Decal Specialists
The weedy seadragon mating dance: The mating dance of weedy seadragons is captivating and inspiring and occurs in our local waters filled with rich colours, diversity and movement. The pair perform a beautiful and unique dance in unison. Similarly, this collaboration required artists working together to create a beautiful, unique and meaningful artwork.

For Nature’s Sake: This sculpture is inspired by the beauty and biodiversity of nature's flora and a desire to call attention to its fragility as climate change wreaks havoc on biodiversity and strips its away.

The future look of the Bellarine: Inspired by the over-development of towns around the Bellarine Peninsula. From a pleasant, semi-rural area, our beautiful Bellarine has become a focus for developers who are creating areas of "Little boxes ... that all look the same". Have we learnt nothing from Pete Seeger? Over-Development is forcing changes on the unique Bellarine identity, with little future value. These new areas of 'little boxes', with their roofs almost touching, often poorly made, hence little chance of longevity. This is why my mosaic ‘town' is roughly built and jammed together, with little appeal, while set in pleasant surroundings.

Three Bottles: My mother was a potter and when I was a child, I loved the earthy plates, bowls and cups she made that we used every day. These glass pots take me back to that time and are in a way a tribute to the influence she has had on my art.
Sculptural Award
Winner - Lucy Cleary
$500.00 sponsored by Stockdale & Leggo
What comes next? If we are not too late: This piece explores the effects of climate change. The first piece shows the bright colours and life we now know, as they slowly fade away. The second piece is more hopeful, 'If we are not too late'. Colour and life are starting to return. The emphasis is on 'If'. Only if we act now will it be not too late.
Sculptural Award

Pearl: I have loved Janis Joplin my whole life; her songs, her voice, her spirit has always resonated deep in my soul. I used a UFinited colour palette as l want the eye to focus on her features and her extraordinary smile. ‘Pearl’ was the name of her final album release posthumously in 1971.
Wearable Award
Winner - Glenda MacNaughton
$500.00 sponsored by Beaders Guild Geelong & Festival of Glass
Sapphire worlds: Inspired by recently discovered giant planets called super-Earths whose composition is rich in the chemical building blocks for sapphires. Astronomers believe their rocky surfaces are littered with shimmering sapphires. My hand-blown glass spheres are used to evoke these far away shimmering sapphire worlds and they are framed by geometric bead-woven components to represent their chemical building blocks.

The Possessive Dragon: I like to imagine a world without humans making a mess of things, and in which dragons, rule and keep everything in balance. As we all know, dragons love their treasure and when I was making implosion reef pendants the other day, one flew into my studio and took possession of one of the more brightly coloured ones. He refused to give it back and so has been allowed to stay.
Novice Award

Deep-Sea: Based on a necklace I saw at the Festival I created my own interpretation. During the 4-day Glass Jewellery Lab Program with Davide Penso we were challenged to design and create a jewellery piece. The piece I created challenged my knowledge gained from the Geelong Beaders Guild, and incorporated new skills learnt from Davide. The necklace is a deep-sea type, representing the complexity and mystery of the deep.
