On this album, we find transcriptions of melodies and arias from celebrated operas for one and two flutes and string orchestra.

This genre of composition was established in the nineteenth century and is directly linked to the evolution of the instrument itself.

Furthermore, this album also features the sonata for strings by the most famous Brazilian opera composer, Carlos Gomes .

Part of the work of Joseph Bodin de Boismortier (1689-1755) is present in this album. There are six concerts, a trio sonata and a suite for flute, making a total of 28 tracks . Boismortier was one of the most versatile and popular composers of his time. During his career, he published 102 works, both vocal and instrumental. The highlights of his music are the melody, simplicity and elegance. Strong example of the genius of the author, little understood in his time, are the concertos for five flutes. A daring, magnificent and successful five pieces for unaccompanied flute. It is possible to note the striking presence of Italian baroque features. All of them are incredibly beautiful, but just to single out one title, the Concerto No 3 in D major ( " Adagio " , " Allegro ," " Allegro " ) is outstanding. The repertoire recorded on this album offers a significant sample of Brazilian music for flute and guitar. The works recorded here cover the period from the time of the Brazilian Empire to the present day. It presents a variety of styles, such as musical forms derived from folk dances or other genres (" Desafio " - Sérgio Vasconcellos ) and the combination of popular elements with more traditional forms ( structure for the " Choro Suite " - Paul Monte Alegre ) . " Valsa Choro " by Francisco Mignone - a clear sample of the genius of the author to transform rhythmic elements of dance into well defined, delineated, formal structured pieces - and " Waltz No. 9 " , originally written for piano , but here perfectly adapted to the poignant tone of the guitar, as a clear examples of this work .

However, the formal European models are also present in some works such as Sonatinas of Edino Kriegger and Radames Gnatali. Rounding out the list of composers, Heitor Villa- Lobos ( " Distribution of Flowers " ) , Paulo Costa Lima and Paulo Porto Alegre . Purchase the album by clicking on the link to Paulus.
