Our Club's Leadership
Participants taking lead in running each meeting is a core element of the Gavel Club. We hold elections in January and July for the leadership roles described below.
Leadership Roles and Responsibilities:
President
preside at all club and executive meetings
provide leadership and guidance for the club
During meetings:
introduce the club’s purpose & goals
introduce guests
introduce the toastmaster of the meeting
at the end, make any announcements
adjourn the meeting
Vice President of Education
plan, organize, direct program to meet the needs of the members
preside over meetings if President is absent
plan speech contests
manage mentor program
Before meetings:
schedule roles for the meeting at least 2 weeks in advance
support the host of the meeting to confirm roles
During meetings:
write your initials on project completion records for speaking and leadership roles fulfilled at the meeting
Vice President of Public Relations
publicize the club on social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, website, blog)
Before meetings:
verify meeting themes, times, and location for social media promotion
Vice President of Membership
Spreads the word about the club, and tries to attract new members.
Secretary
take notes at each club meeting and executive committee meeting
follow Robert’s Rules of Order for Approving Minutes
maintain records: meeting minutes, attendance records, meeting agenda
Before meetings:
email the minutes of the previous club meeting to the group (for review)
