Low back pain affects at least four out of five adults at some point in their lives, making it one of the most common issues treated at Perth Chiropractic in Hadleigh.
Causes of back pain
Low back pain can develop for many reasons, including poor lifting technique, carrying heavy loads incorrectly, poor posture, stress, pregnancy, or general wear and tear over time.
The spine supports the body and houses the spinal cord and nervous system. Nerves exit the spinal cord between each vertebra, so when an injury occurs, it can cause not only local inflammation and discomfort but also irritation of these spinal nerves. This often leads to pain radiating into the buttocks, the back or front of the thigh, and sometimes all the way down to the foot and toes.
A common misconception is that sudden low back pain is caused by a “slipped disc.” Discs don’t actually slip—however, they can bulge, and when they do, they may cause leg pain or sciatica.
Chiropractic treatment for back pain
Chiropractic care is effective for acute, chronic, and general low back pain. Current government guidelines from NICE, as well as recommendations from the Royal College of General Practitioners, highlight early referral for manipulative therapies—such as chiropractic—as one of the most effective approaches for managing both acute and long standing low back pain.
