The 18th Sunday in ordinary time, the new academic year 2013-2014 was launched at the Apostles of Jesus Philosophicum chapel. The main celebrant and the Guest of honor was Rev. Fr. Steven Payne O.C.D., the Principle of Tangaza University College. Present at the Eucharistic celebration which marked the launching of the new academic year were the two formation teams of the AJ Theologicum and Philosophicum communities, Rev. Priests and Sisters from neighboring institutions, some Lecturers, Scholastics, Postulants and Pre-postulants.
In his homily, Fr. Payne reminded us to always have our priorities in life straight. He stressed the words of Jesus rooted in the Gospel of the day, not to focus on accumulating material goods but to struggle and seek onlythat which will propel us to the kingdom of God. Our focus should be to grow rich in God’s ways since Heaven is our destiny.
To Fr. Payne having a purpose in life is more satisfying than happiness. He invited us to grow purposely, so as to attain happiness, rather than seeking happiness which will make us sad in a long-run. He reminded us that Faith, Wisdom and love should always be our tools as we journey to our eternal Kingdom.
In his concluding remarks, the Councellor in charge of Education and formation, Rev. Fr. John Morris Loboka thanked all who attended this celebration and welcomed all the Brothers to enter the new academic year with renewed zeal to listen to the Voice of God through their Academic andSpiritual formation
