  • Start Early, Submit Early!

  • Submit your FAFSA

    • Many scholarships will ask for your Student Aid Report (SAR)

  • Get your transcripts ASAP

    • Committee's are looking at the courses you've taken, grades, and GPA.

  • Save your attachments as PDFs

    • This helps the committee view your attachments

  • Answer all questions

    • Every question that appears are tied to scholarship opportunities. If you skip it, you disqualify yourself from the scholarship.

    • If you cannot answer the question because it doesn't apply to you, that's ok.

  • Prepare you Personal Statement in Word Doc

    • Have this ready before applying to save time.

        • This is your chance to show who you are. Reveal something that isn't in your application.

        • Be mindful of word choice, tone, and voice. Revise, revise, revise! Have someone else read it before submitting it.

  • Notify recommenders before asking for a letter of recommendation

    • Always ask if a teacher, counselor, coach, community member is willing to write a recommendation for you.

    • Ask well ahead of the deadline to give the recommender lots of time. The minimum amount of time should be two weeks.
