She's got color
The red color from the original gelcoat grew on me so I decided to stick with it. Considered a repeat of the paint scheme on 3144 or a solid silver, but decided it still had to be my Red Barchetta. Then, it was just picking a red. A few years back I liked the deep cherry reds, but lately the brighter ones appeal to me more...but not to 'yellowish.' Ended up going back and forth between Ford Toreador Red and BMW Imola Red before finally going for the BMW color in a single stage so I didn't have to mess with the nasties in BC/CC, or metallics.
These photos are very flattering and you can see the flaws, but it will be a decent 10-foot paint job. I put on five coats so I should be able to buff out some or the orange peel. Had some dimples here and there that I think were solvent pop. Probably a little bit too heavy on the spray and not quite enough time between coats...not sure.
I ended up reshooting the hood and trunk after sanding out a few runs. Laid them out horizontally and the results were much better. Doors came out great with the stand that's now been used on three different Cobras.
Had to roll it outside to get some good light - here it is with clouds..
Then the sun cam out and gave it a little more pop!
While letting the paint cure and waiting for my new FiTech EFI system (on backorder) I got some new louvers and took some polishing compound and buffer to them.
