After my licence (2004) and master-degree (2005) studies at the Faculty of Physics, Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, I pursued a doctoral thesis (2005-2008) at the same university, under the direction of prof. Simion Astilean. My thesis, titled Ordered Plasmonic Nanostructures: from Fabrication to Relevant Applications in Optical Spectroscopy and Sensing, dealt with the fabrication and characterization of 2D noble-metal nanoparticle arrays and films, and their applications in plasmon-enhanced optical spectroscopies (Raman-SERS and fluorescence-SEF).
Then I moved abroad for a postdoctoral research stage (2008-2009) at the CEMES laboratory in Toulouse, France, where, under the supervision of prof. Robert Carles and prof. Vincent Paillard, I worked on the design and characterization of embedded Ag nanoparticle assemblies for plasmonics on flat surfaces.
I had a second postdoctoral research stage (2009-2011) at LPCNO in Toulouse, where I worked on convective self-assembly of colloidal gold nanoparticles for the development of strain (deformation) sensors, in the group of prof. Laurence Ressier.
Since the end of 2011 I am back in Cluj-Napoca, working as a researcher in the Nanobiophotonics and Laser Microspectroscopy Center at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Bio-Nano-Sciences, Babes-Bolyai University.
Autumn 2017 I began work as a Senior Researcher at the National Institute for research and Development of Isotopic and Molecular Technologies (INCDTIM, familiarly known as ITIM) in Cluj-Napoca.
