Just as important as voting:
- Realize there is another side and respect their right to voice their opinions
- Realize that the strength we have are our diverse thoughts, ideas and experiences that when used collectively contribute to the greater good
-Realize that compromise and working together is the only way this great experiment called Democracy can succeed in this great country of ours
And remember, instead of choosing to be right this Election Day and beyond by arguing with whatever side is opposite yours, choose to be KIND instead. And of course, VOTE!
Hate certainly reared it’s ugly head in October. On the morning of October 28th Samantha was studying in Carnegie Mellon's Tepper Hall and two women came in screaming that there was an active shooter on campus, so she ran out and went to another building and sheltered in a bathroom with lights out and the door barricaded before calling 911 and then getting an all-clear from Campus Security, but then a few minutes later got the campus-wide message to get indoors due to the tragedy unfolding in Squirrel Hill.
After being in the dorm sheltered-in-place for the afternoon until the all-clear was given, she then was evacuated due to a fire alarm. She ran out without shoes, so she got some muddy, cold feet (told her always keep her shoes and jacket within grab reach in case she needs to run out), but safely made her way into another building to wait for things to sort out. She said on her way down the fire stairs it smelled “toasty”, which is never a good smell during a fire alarm. Turns out is was just that - someone burned toast in the dorms, so she is back in and safe.
Waking up to hear of the violence in Pittsburgh certainly scared the hell out of us given we've come to know Squirrel Hill during our many Pittsburgh visits.
Praying for all of the innocent who were injured or killed that day, and especially for the first responders who ran towards the danger putting aside their personal safety to risk their lives for others. What is this world coming to..
Hope is what I see when I spend the afternoon watching today’s youth/tomorrow’s leaders working together to help the community - another great Eagle Scout Project, as Five Mile Woods here in LMT benefited with a good section of one of the trails cleaned and repaired, with some additional storage added to their building as well. Very honored to have worked with another fine young man as he completes his journey towards Eagle!
We visited Sam at Carnegie Mellon for Parent Visitation Weekend. It was great to spend some time with our girl!
How quickly everyone grew up - here's some back to school photos of the kids:
