Another year ends, and another attempt begins to chronicle the family activities on a web page. Hopefully this gives you a good idea of what we've been up to over the past year - it's certainly been busy. Sure, it may not capture everything, and certainly there are good times and not-so-good times and struggles that are missing, but a big part of putting this together is an exercise in gratefulness, for family, friends, and all of these cherished memories. Hope you enjoy reviewing it all. - Eddie
Everyone knows that Macy's favorite Christmas movie was "Elf", so it was a no-brainer for Eddie and Damari to gift her tickets to "Elf" the musical in Philly for her birthday.
Samantha and Aleks planned an after-Christmas visit to NYC to see "Death Becomes Her" so Eddie and Damari coordinated their gift to each of them to attend the "Dungeons & Dragons The Twenty-Sided Tavern" show the next day (after they visited and stayed over with Aleks' Mom). The DND show was a hit - so much so that they are planning to attend with their DND group once again in January!
We were all blessed to be together on Christmas with the gang sharing dinner including Macy's sister Riley and the one and only Mikey! It was an Italian feast of lasagna, eggplant parmesan, and meatballs, all Gluten-Free of course!
Eddie, Damari, and Nicolas attended a concert at 11PM on Christmas Eve held by the Basilica Cathedral Choir (which Samantha is a member) that led into the Christmas Midnight Mass at midnight. A beautiful experience all around, and a great way to celebrate the meaning of Christmas. It was crowded - standing room only with over 3000 participants, but it was enjoyed by all.
Winter means it's time for the Pennsbury Community Choir Winter Concert, where everyone got together to watch (Nic and Eddie) or participate as Damari, Anthony, Macy and Samantha sing. We were joined by Macy's Mom, Michelle and family friend Terry, and we all enjoyed a great Italian dinner afterwards at Mama Mia nearby. As always, a great day of music and family togetherness!
To end the semester Nicolas filmed this final performance for one of his classes - it's "Donny Novitski" from the musical "Bandstand". The link below will bring you to the Google Photos library with the video.
One of Eddie's favorite volunteer activities as a member of the Knights of Columbus is to cook at their various all-you-can-eat breakfast fundraisers, and every year they cook for the Holy Trinity CYO for the Santa breakfast. Not only a great way to provide service to our Church, but also a fun day of camaraderie and brotherhood with some great friends who volunteered. Blessed to be a Knight and serve with these Catholic gentlemen!
Eddie took an early morning trip into Philly to give Samantha a lift to choir practice at the Basilica Cathedral, and luckily they had some time to catch up for some great lattes and great company!
This was a big deal. Anthony and Eddie are very proud of the boys they are blessed to participate in Scouting with in Troop 4 at their Church, Holy Trinity. The boys in the Troop had never participated in a Court of Honor ceremony (basically a celebration of Scouting achievements), and the Troop 4 Fall Court of Honor was held at Trinity Hall with some special invitees including friends from Cub Scout Pack 4, Monsignor Eckert, Nick Lapolla (Grand Knight at Holy Trinity), along with family and friends. Everyone celebrated two of the boys achievement of earning the Scout rank, and three of the boys earning the Valley Forge Historical Trail medal. As impressive as all that was, the repeat-after-me song "The Pizza Man" may have been the hit of the night. Everyone is so proud of these boys!
Nicolas visited Maggie in DC once again, and was able to get a private tour of the U.S. Capital with her. Here they are from underneath the rotunda.
Turkey time once again with Mikey and the gang - and don't forget the spiral ham! Another time to practice gratitude and enjoy each other's company - and play Rummikub.
How did this guy sneak up on us with his 23rd birthday? Celebrating 23 wonderful years of happiness of the greatness of Nicolas.
Samantha's first Mass singing with the Cathedral Basilica Choir was on All Soul's Day, and Eddie and Damari traveled down to Philly to witness the beautiful sounds.
In what's become a Veterans Day yearly tradition, Damari, Anthony, Macy and Samantha once again performed at the ceremony at the LMT Veterans Memorial as part of the annual parade and celebration with the Pennsbury Community Choir. Always a great way to honor our veterans.
Troop 4 history in the making as they participated in their first parade march with Cub Scout Pack 4 at the LMT Veterans Day Parade. The boys did a great job honoring our Veterans while marching and distributing lots of candy to onlookers.
Thanks to Penn Medicine Samantha received some free tickets up in Revolutionary Row. It was a good time, and Eddie and Samantha even met up with Nicolas and Maggie (Maggie gifted Nicolas tickets for his birthday) who were sitting across the arena from each other. And as an added bonus, the half-time concert was performed by non-other than the Sugar Hill Gang!
While everyone voted on Election Day (and made it home for Taco Tuesday, Anthony and Macy posted the "I Voted" photo to commemorate the event.
Nicolas was able to get some updated headshots taken, and this pic of Nicolas and Damari were included!
Extremely proud of Damari and these ladies along with the members of the PHS Drama Thespian Troupe for their performance of "Almost, Maine". Great acting, set, costumes, and direction made this a wonderful show to watch - congrats to all!
S.T.A.G.E. stands for Sharing Theatre and Guiding Emotions, and this year's production of "Magic Theatre" focused on sharing the performances through this program to those in some elementary and middle schools in the district. Bravo to all those involved including the student directors for a wonderful show and a great program.
Eddie performing solo duty sitting outside on the porch giving out treats for Halloween, as a certain someone is petrified of the Trick-or-Treaters as they ring the bell for some chips and candy. It was a beautiful night to sit outside, and we had about 40+ visitors that night.
Samantha and Aleks took Attic Arcana back to the PA Ren Faire for a good part of its run. They had a great showing, and had fun watching the jousting and meeting people. This year Alexis was able to pitch in and help out - looks like she fit right in!
Pennsbury High School saluted Damari this year as she celebrated her 57th birthday.
Troop 4's first outing was a day hike of the Valley Forge Historical Trail in Valley Forge National Park not too far away from where we live. The boys hiked over 11 miles while answering questions about the history of Valley Forge and General Washington's troops at a pivotal time of the Revolutionary War. While the adult leaders legs were sore, the boys did a great job enjoying some great weather and each other's company.
It was our good friend Alain's performance that took Nicolas and Damari out to Rider University to see "Rent", and as always, Alain was amazing, putting on a great performance!
Won't go into too many details here (mostly because the work is way over most people's heads trying to pretend they know what Samantha does), but this was a big deal. Samantha presented to those in biology that gets what she does, and that's what was most important. She also had the opportunity to present with a very highly respected scientist she admires in attendance, and was able to chat with her, so this was a great trip. And, her peers in the Mir Lab at UPenn were well represented as well.
Once again it's basketball season and Eddie, Samantha and Nicolas jumped at the opportunity to enjoy a pre-season game with our 76ers playing New Zealand. Always a great time!
Samantha got some great free tickets but the usual crew (she and Nicolas) had conflicts so Damari and Eddie and Damari took advantage of some level 100 seats and enjoyed some 76ers pre-season basketball.
Anthony, Macy and their friend Chris enjoyed a Stephen Sanchez concert in Philly.
It's an old favorite - student written and produced "Thursday Night Live" (aka TNL) where students performed a number of original skits. A student band also performed as special guests. Great job by all!
Anthony, aka "Mr. F", was the subject of praise from some folks on a stop-by at Damari's office - always love to hear others great feedback and comments on the amazing job that he does!
Eddie, Damari and Samantha traveled down to Nashville and then took a short drive down to Huntsville, Alabama for a family reunion of sorts. They were blessed to be able to join Ivan and Jenn at the wedding of Aurelia and Kyle, where they also spent some time with Brianna and Analise, and the rest of the Martinez and Jones' families. Beautiful ceremony for the start of a wonderful matrimony for Aurelia and Kyle.
Troop 4 began the Scouting year with weekly Troop meetings with the old staples of the Pledge of Allegiance, Scout Oath and Law, Group Instruction, Patrol Time, and Games. They were lucky to be able to hold some meetings outdoors and migrated into the Knights Room at Holy Trinity once the weather wasn't cooperating. The boys quickly adopted to the meeting routine and began to thrive as time went on.
"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"
All kidding aside, when Eddie found out that a new Troop was formed at my church, Holy Trinity, he found a calling to once again dust off his uniform and return to service. Eddie loves all of the experiences that Scouting has blessed him with, and he's happy to be back to serve and gather more rewarding memories. And, as an added bonus, Anthony is working with him as Assistant Scoutmaster!
Everyone is so happy that Samantha has another family - the folks at the Mir Lab at UPenn are certainly more than colleagues or friends. It's so great to hear her stories about them, and learn about how they're not only brilliant scientists, but are also mentors and friends that all support each other. Samantha tells us that not only is Mustafa a great mentor and lab leader, but is also a master of the barbecue!
Damari shuffled off to Minneapolis to attend the Educational Theater Association's (EDTA) TEC Training Conference for theatre educators. Damari attended workshops, worked with a mentor, and had the opportunity with many others from across the country who both share in her love of theatre education as well as with coaching and mentoring young students. She also had the opportunity to connect with a PHS alumni (who went to PHS with our kids) who is now a theatre educator!
Samantha was awarded an honorable mention in the 2024 Small World in Motion Microscope Imaging Competition. See the article below that contains more details.
There's nothing more relaxing than escaping out to LBI and spending time with Janet, Billy and Alexis. Eddie, Damari and Samantha always enjoy this special time together, where everyone can just sit and talk for hours to reconnect and enjoy each other's company.
Anthony aka Mr. F made a big change this year as his assignment at Penn Valley Elementary ended and he began a new chapter as the Tech teacher at the Middle Schools, starting at Penn Valley this fall. He's really enjoying the work and the kids, and is sharpening his skills at podcasting and working with the kids on all things technology. Also, he's mastered the 3D printer!
Macy and her sister Riley were able to catch "Hamilton" together in NYC.
Nicolas visited Maggie in DC while she was participating in an internship and got to enjoy the sites while traveling around DC.
Different views of a major rainbow sighting, one set from Anthony's place in Bensalem, and the other from Samantha in West Philly.
Anthony and Macy were able to enjoy a beautiful day to go tubing down the Delaware River.
It's safe to say that "Newsies" is a family favorite, so when Nicolas had the opportunity to try out for a role he took it, and so came his first performance at the Upper Darby Summer Stage. The venue was incredible, and the show was full of talented actors, singers, and dancers, and as usual, Nicolas wowed us all. Also, this is where Nicolas and Maggie met!
We didn't get first day photos for everyone, but Anthony and Macy made sure they shared their first day of school photos!
Eddie's been a big fan of Jeff Warren, enjoying his meditations on both the 10 Percent Happier app as well as Calm, and also enjoyed his book with Dan Harris "Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics". Although Eddie saw him at another retreat, this one was Jeff solo, and it was spectacular. Eddie highly recommends following Jeff (he's easily found via Google search and has many platforms) to help you practice or learn about meditation. Great insight into mindfulness, and great humor and honesty in his practice as well.
Damari started PHS Drama's year off with some workshops that were well-received by the kids (and fun, too!).
Our family's love of Janet carries over to Billy as two of the best people we know joined together as one. So happy that we had the opportunity to join in celebrating their union. We love you Janet and Billy, and wish you the best as you continue the journey of life together!
Damari and Eddie took a cruise in February, and immediately messaged the gang to ask if they would be willing to repeat it with us together in July - and so a plan was put in place, and a wonderful vacation was had by all. It was great to do everything or nothing, and the only rule was that we all would have dinner together each night, although we ended up going to shows, going ashore, playing cards, singing in Karoake, or just lounging and relaxing together. It was just the vacation that we all needed!
Anthony and Macy had the opportunity to visit Hersheypark. Hershey is a special place to them, as that was the half-way meeting point when they started dating with Macy living out west in PA.
Samantha and Aleks took a road trip to Ohio to visit the Great Lakes Medieval Faire.
The Lucky Seat ticket lottery site proved fruitful for Anthony and Macy, as well as for Samantha and Aleks as they won some discounted tickets for "Funny Girl" in Philly.
Eddie and Damari occasionally like our boardwalk walks on the shore, so they returned to Point Pleasant (haven't been there since taking the once little ones on the rides) and enjoyed a walk on a beautiful night.
Just some fun photos of Anthony and Macy!
Each year the Mir Lab at UPenn hosts high school visitors interested in the biology lab, and Samantha loves to host, teach, and meet perspective students. Samantha said they had a big turnout this year.
Some photos of Damari visiting the PCC Musical Summer Camp this year where they performed "Beauty and the Beast".
At the end of every school year a small contingent of PHS Drama Troupe 830 treks out to Indiana to attend the International Thespian Festival (ITF) where the attend workshops, shows, compete in Thespies, and network with other theatre students and teachers. Damari comes back tired, but energized with a renewed love of theatre education every year!
Eddie and Damari traveled down to Philly to watch Nicolas perform in the "Villains Caberet" at Drexel University. Another wonderful performance by Nicolas - watch the performance at the link below.
Another presentation for Samantha, and once again, I have no idea about anything on that slide. But I do know that she loved the opportunity to present, and that she was happy about the job she did (which is the most important part of it all).
Nicolas once again joined his friends at his favorite dance school, Downstage, where he danced once again in a "Back to the Future" themed show. Our family always enjoys a Downstage show!
This year the entire family attended a group outing for work as colleagues from the SEC got together to attend PRIDE Night at Citizens Bank Park to watch the Phillies win. It was great for everyone to be able to come out with us including the extended family of Lucas, Riley and Aleks.
Damari loves her work with Pennsbury Athletics and the student athletic interns showed their appreciation to her at the end of the school year.
It was a day to celebrate Mr. F, although the kids were somewhat sad as his tenure as SPARK teacher there ended and he announced he would be moving to the middle schools to teach Tech. The 5th graders at Penn Valley may have been the only kids to cheer the announcement when they realized they'd be with him once again in the 6th grade at William Penn.
Another visit in the books! Mikey returned to the island of Puerto Rico accompanied by Eddie and Damari - but he would be back soon, to permanently join them in Yardley!
Strong, smart women stick together, and enjoy each other's company, as the women of the Mir Lab at UPenn got together!
It was great to start the day with prayer, service and brotherhood at the Eastern PA Knights of Columbus Food Packing Event. Thanks to Eddie's brother Knights, their families, and others they prepared 50,000 meals to benefit those in need both locally and internationally. It’s with great gratitude that Eddie had the opportunity to serve in this way, and to say watching the work and camaraderie of all those involved was inspiring would be an understatement - bravo to all those who organized this event. One of Eddie's favorite experiences as a Knight. Goes to show you that the old saying still applies - “many hands make light work”.
This continues to mystify Damari, and she things it's a cult, but the Jeep was "ducked" again at the dentist of all places as Samantha borrowed the Jeep for an appointment and found this guy when she returned to the Jeep.
Dessert Theatre and Thespian Induction is a staple celebration to mark the end of another year for PHS Drama and the members of Thespian Troupe 830, and this year the Red Carpet theme was "Disco" and Damari jumped in all the way to help the kids celebrate and enjoy.
This year's PCC Spring Concert was a very special performance of the "Holocaust Cantata", a very moving and special remembrance that was so beautifully performed by all. Both Anthony and Samantha performed in solos, and you can watch by clicking the link below.
Mikey loved the Brazilian Churrascaria Nabrasa when we took him a few months ago, so we couldn't think of a better place to celebrate his 90th birthday with the gang. Besides being a little cold, he loved the party and dinner!
Damari received some appropriate accolades at work and was celebrated as the "Athletics Member of the Week" at Pennsbury High School.
It was SPARK night at Penn Valley Elementary, and of course Mr. F was on hand to make sure the kids learned and had plenty of fun!
Samantha and Nicolas were able to get some last minute tickets at the box office to see the Sixers in the playoffs, but unfortunatley it was the end of an incredible year for the team - but we still enjoyed our time at the games!
Eddie had the privelege and honor of escorting Monsignor Eckert in his Jeep in the Morrisville Memorial Day Parade!
In the news:
Eddie participated with the Knights of Columbus at Holy Trinity in a special event this year when a Eucharistic Pilgrimage traveling throughout the country was making a stop at Holy Trinity. Blessed to participate with my brother Knights and the Holy Trinity family.
Always proud when someone brings to our attention the recognition of all of the efforts of Mr. F, and the care he has for the kids he educates.
This is Samantha speaking at the Cellular and Developmental Biology (CDB) Retreat at UPenn this year. Love that she's really developed her speaking skills!
Nicolas may be a Finance major (although he will probably graduate with a Theatre minor), but he seems to be the face of the Drexel Performing Arts Program. His image is still prominent outside the Mandell Theater on the Drexel University campus, and once again he appears in the 2024-2025 brochure for the program as well (that includes some of his performance pictures). You can see him in the pics and brochure links below.
Damari (along with Ruth and Olivia) attended a performance of "Noises Off" at the Bucks County Playhouse with their PHS Drama students, where they had a chance to participate in a talk back with the cast at the end of the performance.
Eddie attended his first meditation retreat at the "Meditation Retreat" at Omega in Rhinebeck, NY, to see three of his favorite meditation teachers, Dan Harris, Sebene Selassie, and Jeff Warren. Highly recommended, these retreats are a great way to step away and recharge, learn about meditation, or deepen your practice, all while being surrounded by a community of mindfulness.

Trying to make Mikey comfortable we tried the hammock in the yard - it ain't Puerto Rico, but we tried!
Nicolas auditioned at a small community theatre just outside Philly called "Old Academy Players" for a show we've seen before, "Next to Normal". This is a tough show with so many emotions that I'd dare anyone to see it and not shed a tear. Nicolas and the entire cast was incredible, and he loved the experience!

Nicolas' friend CJ asked him to preform in a short video for submission to entry to film school. This is a fun view to see Nicolas in a different way, and a great film by a young, talented filmmaker.
Watch the film at the link below:
Eddie and Samantha caught a 76ers game and Samantha was sure to get tickets sitting right in front of her favorite announcer and the voice of the 76ers, Kate Scott (you can see her right behind us in the photo). Although we don't have a pic or video, the highlight of the night was saying hello to Kate and Alaa and getting to fist-pump them just before the start of the game!
