Cecil Robert Bluett

According to family, Cecil died on Feb 7, 1959 in Wickham, Hampshire, England. This is a letter from Cecil Robert Bluett to his uncle Robert Miller on 6 Mar 1930:

“Dear Uncle Robert, Madeline has told me all about your visit to her at Titchfield and how delighted she was to meet you. I’m afraid I’ve not kept my promise, made some years ago, to write sometimes to you about my doings out here; but perhaps this may be of interest still! At the moment, as you know we live in Chittagong [in Bengal] where I have been Port Officer for the last 3 and a half years. It is rather a delightful little place in some ways, but a bit too far removed from real civilization perhaps, tho we have enjoyed it very much. The work is interesting but I shall welcome a change after our next leave. I have been told, unofficially, that I shall probably get command of one of our sloops when I come out & that may last for 2 years, after that another shore appointment in some Port. You probably know that the R.I.M. [?] has been completely re-organized & is now under the command of Rear Admiral Walwyn R.N. & we have great hopes of it becoming quite a decent service, tho. it will never be a large one of course. We are looking forward to at least 8 months leave from next October, possibly 12 months if I am to do any R.N. courses at Portsmouth as I did last leave. We are very comfortably fixed in here in a Railway bungalow on a hill & we manage to [keep?] young Bobbie from melting away entirely—he is a cheerful little chap and pretty well covered, as you probably noticed when you saw him! It is sad about my father being so ill, Mother writes saying that he obviously cannot live very long—she writes a brave letter but I’m terribly sorry for her & I’m afraid it will hit her very badly. I’m very glad Lulu is with them & will be a comfort to her through it all. I don’t suppose you have ever been in Chittagong so its not much good my saying much about the place—except perhaps that they are bridging the River Rashafuli [?] to extend its Railway towards Akijab [?] & to eventually link up with the Burma Railways I suppose. Political affairs are quiet..?..here, but it is rather a health resort for malcontents they say, who come here for a rest from their activities. Madeline and I are hoping we shall see you and Aunt Helen when we come home—we shall probably live somewhere in Hampshire. Madeline Bobbie and I send love to you and Aunt Helen, Your affectionate nephew, Cecil Bluett.”
