WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ROOM 104!
Your child is having fun and learning at the same time in our classroom.
Home Folders
Please check your child’s backpack for the Home Folder each night. You may return notes and other materials to school in the Home Folder. Please check the folder and return it to school the next day. Please return the Home Reading books and notebook inside the folder (please see the Homework Page on this website for more information). I will email you a classroom newsletter each week to provide important information, calendar highlights, and updates on upcoming classroom events.
School Lunches
There is no fee for school lunch and/or milk. The federal government is funding lunches for all CPS students. We do not permit fast food lunches to be dropped off for students.
Snack
We ask that you send your child to school each day with a healthy snack (no cookies or chips will be allowed. Children may bring water--but no juice, please. We will have our snack in the afternoons. We hope that this will give all students the energy to sustain themselves during the longer school day.
Volunteering at Edgebrook
We love having family members involved in our classroom! To serve as a Mystery Reader, field trip chaperone, or help with classroom parties and activities, you must be an approved volunteer. Please follow the link to complete the volunteer approval process: CLICK HERE
Birthdays
Due to numerous food allergies, there is a no birthday treat policy for all grades at Edgebrook. Instead of food treats, some parents and children may prefer to send party favors for each child or donate a game or book to the classroom. There are 27 students in our class. On or near your child's birthday, the class will make your student a very special birthday book to keep at home. Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June.

Attendance and School Hours
Your child should be ready to enter the building through DOOR #9 (playground/sitting wall doors) at 8:27 a.m. The children are dismissed from DOOR #9 at 3:27. A successful school experience is the responsibility of the child, the parent, and the school. Your child's progress, both academically and socially, is influenced to a great extent by daily participation. Regular attendance without tardiness is key. When possible, please make appointments for your child outside of school hours to avoid absences. Upon returning to school after an absence, all children are required to have a signed and dated note from their parent/guardian that details the reason for the child’s absence
Now you can report your child's absence through the Parent Portal on your computer or your phone and not worry about calling or having to write a note. Here is a short video to show you how to do it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o6xQk42nO_EgBSzCex8THl8ZMTPGuItk/view
Arrival
The first graders hit the ground running as soon as the bell rings! Morning work is a time for students to settle in, practice key skills, and prepare for the day’s lessons. When students arrive on time, they feel confident and ready to learn alongside their peers. Thank you for helping your child start their day on a high note by arriving by 8:27.
Dismissal
We will dismiss the first graders from door #9 (playground/sitting wall doors) at 3:27. Please meet your child outside.
Supporting Our Classroom
Book orders are a great way to simultaneously build your child’s home collection as well as our classroom library! Please order anytime and often!

Field Trips
We may take several field trips to extend our learning outside the classroom. We take a limited number of chaperones on our trips. Our room parents work hard to ensure that every parent who is an approved Edgebrook volunteer gets a chance to attend a field trip or help out in the classroom.
Dressing for School and Recess
Your child should wear gym shoes on gym days and bring boots to school in the winter. We will be going outside year round unless there are extreme weather conditions (below 15 degrees). Your child should be learning to tie shoelaces and should be able to dress for recess without help. Accidents can happen (e.g., spills and puddles). Please send an extra outfit (including socks and underwear) to school in a labeled bag. These clothes will be kept in your child’s locker.
Who is P.A.T.?
P.A.T. is not a person. It is “Preferred Activity Time”. P.A.T. is time our class earns for fun, educationally worthwhile activities.
