On those occasions when students score lower than 80% on a classroom test, quiz, or major assignment, students are expected to review, revise, and resubmit their work to demonstrate evidence of understanding. Student may earn points up to half the value of each problem, at the teacher's discretion, towards an improved score no greater than 80%. The procedures vary by subject:
Fix and Finish work should be written on a separate sheet of looseleaf, stapled to the front of the original assignment and turned in by the Monday following its return.
Math - 1. Provide the correct answer or solution. 2. Show and/or prove all work. 3. Explain why the previous answer was incorrect.
(Example: "What is 80% equivalent to?" 1. Answer: 80% = .80 or 80 hundredths. 2. Proof: 80% means 80 out of 100. It is less than one whole, which would equal 100%. 3. My previous answer was 80 hundreds, which would be equal to 80 x 100 = 8,000, not .80)
Reading Comprehension and Scholastic News - 1. Identify the correct answer.
2. Provide text evidence and an explanation which proves why it is correct. 3.Explain why the previous answer was incorrect.
(Example: For the question "Whose porridge did Goldielocks eat first?" 1.The correct answer was (A.) Papa Bear's. 2. Text Evidence and Proof: It says in the text on page 8, "Goldielocks saw three bowls of porridge. First she took a taste from the largest one." We know from the story that Papa Bear was the largest in his family and he had the largest bowl, chair and bed. 3. My previous answer was (C.) Baby Bear. Although the question asked for "first," I was thinking "last.")
Wordly Wise - 1. Provide the correct spelling and definition of the word. 2. Use the word in an original sentence which clearly shows the meaning of the word. 3. Explain why the previous answer was incorrect.
(Example: 1. Definition for Lingered: verb, past tense, meaning stayed. 2. Sentence: The children lingered at the playground, wanting to play a little longer.) 3. My previous answer was linger, which was incorrect because it was present, not past tense.
