I was born in Calgary, Alberta. I did my B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC (along with my older brother Adam, who is also a philosopher). I received my Ph.D. in Philosophy in 2017 from the the University of Maryland, College Park, where I worked under the supervision of Peter Carruthers. I spent the 2017-2018 academic year teaching in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Rochester. From 2018-2020, I was a postdoc in the Philosophy Department at the University of Toronto, where I worked with Jennifer Nagel. From 2020-2022, I was a postdoctoral fellow in the Philosophy Department at York University, where I worked with Kristin Andrews on a project about the psychology of social norms. I joined the Department of Philosophy at Purdue University in 2022.
When I'm not doing philosophy, I'm usually cooking vegan food, lifting weights, reading (or, if you're being fussy, listening to) novels, or letting my cat Tilly bite me. I also draw philosopher portraits on my office whiteboard.
Speaking of portraits: you should check out my mother Monique's pet portrait website.
