A global effort has begun to reverse engineer the damage the human race has inflicted upon the biosphere. Early attempts of climate repair, land and water restoration, cleaning the oceans and reversing mass extinctions have been unsuccessful. Even augmented humans and super computers can't handle all the data or provide the intelligence or wisdom needed for global restoration. Bringing stability to the biosphere has finally become an issue of international security and so Project Gaia was born. To be successful it will need to be run by advanced Artificial Intelligence but the technology has long been taboo for fear of the annihilation of the human race.
Daniel, a former A.I. researcher living alone, unplugged from the hypermodern world must leave the sanctuary of the natural world and return to San Francisco to help Project Gaia save the failing biosphere. While the advanced A.I. he helps to create are learning to untangle the the complex systems of the world, Daniel must learn to survive away from the comfort of nature. This is the story of his struggle to adapt and find balance living again in a dynamic world of strange technologies.
