"You should be punished!"  When one sins against another by being careless, indifferent, hurtful in some way and the other states or thinks "You should be punished!" and you regret, repent ask forgiveness but it is not given, only are you told "You should be punished!" and you do what God gives you to do to try to show you are sorry - yet no forgiveness is given..Satan is on the attack.  You are being told that God should punish you for what you have done to another and you should!  It is then that if you do not have on Him, as your helmet of salvation, as your righteousness, as your truth, as your shoes of peace, if you are not IN Him, that Satan will fire those fiery darts and he has got to you.  If you are in Christ you realize that He took your punishment for you, the wrath of God for all eternity has been endured by Him and He wants you to have the faith that He has done it all for you, out of love and wants you to forgive the other for their lack of forgiveness, love this enemy whom Satan is seeking to use against you.  You stand in Christ.  You are IN HIM.  He is whom our Father sees when He looks at you - the Father sees our Lord Jesus Christ because you know and trust He loves you and went to the cross for you, has risen and He surrounds you with His righteous life so the Father doesn't 'see' your sin.  Yes confess it, acknowledge it, repent of it, but always while you are IN Christ, in your armor who He is.
