Abstract:

The technological advancement in IT has left its imprints in all walks of the life and industry. Power Industry is no exception to this and has reaped the benefits of IT advancements from time to time. Now a days the black outs and brown outs hardly happen in developed countries and even countries like India we don’t talk about this much. Though the Power system operation and control is a cumbersome exercise and nightmare to the grid Operators, the implementation of EMS / SCADA systems has helped them breath easier, relax and perform the job better.

We will discuss about the India South SCADA / EMS System located at Regional Control Center, Bangalore and discuss the various components involved in a hierarchical SCADA/EMS system. The India South SCADA/EMS system was commissioned in 2002 and is equipped with the state of the art technology “XA / 21 system”. We will discuss about the XA /21 system also in detail.
