3.6 Effect of pH on Enzyme Activity

At extreme pH, the enzymes are denatured. Substrate molecules cannot bind to the active sites of enzymes. Rate of reaction at Points A and B is zero.

At optimum pH, active sites of enzymes are most ideal to bind to substrate molecules. Maximum rate of reaction occurs at optimum pH.
