3.1 Specificity of Enzymes

Figure above, catalase in fresh liver only acts on hydrogen peroxide and not water.

For enzymes to act on a specific substrate, the substrate molecules need to have a specific shape complementary to the active sites of the enzymes.

Therefore, one enzyme only acts on one substrate.
