1. Plan for English Interventions for 2016-17

School-wide interventions programs needed.

Grade-level benchmarks in 10th in place to identify areas of needs to address. - IN PLACE with Illuminate. Better in literature than in informational texts.

9th Grade - Rachael will head the team to solidify and standardize benchmarks

11th Grade - Jason will head the team to solidify and standardize benchmarks

Need to align standards with benchmarks.

2. Essay assignments throughout the department. (Common core writing)

Writing required for every unit (approx 3 units per semester), Research paper every grade.

9 CP - chunk out paragraphs and components of the essay eg. Body, intro, conclusion (Shaffer format)

Argumentative, Narrative, Informational

10 CP - REview writing process. Write all three genres using 5-paragraph essay format (Shaffer)

11 CP - Review all genres. Reinforce for CAASPP assessment.

12 ERWC - Write essays after each module.

Honors and APs - writing full essays

3. English and Technology - we will have a discussion regarding Haiku, iPads, iBooks, etc.

iBooks are being finished for 9, 10, 11 - teachers need to check the created iBooks for use in the coming academic year

Haiku - digital teaching portal is becoming the standard for the district

iPads are kept by students over the summer

iBooks or hard copy are student options.

Needs: 1. Keynote not available in iPad. 2.

4. Pedagogy and Feedback - Timeliness and types of feedback - I want to introduce some new research and a high tech grading possibility.
