Elon's chapter of the American Association of University Professors is a local advocacy organization for faculty at Elon University, supported by both the state of North Carolina's AAUP Conference and by the national AAUP organization.
We are Elon faculty who come together to support each other in our work at Elon and to advocate for academic freedom, shared governance, and economic security for all Elon faculty.
Your AAUP dues go to support the national organization's legal and lobbying operations, and a portion of that money is available to our chapter through grants and dues sharing.
You can join this chapter by joining the national organization and then emailing us at elonuniversityaaup@gmail.com to let us know you've joined.
Although the national has suggested income brackets for joining, you can join at whatever level feels doable for you.
Once you've joined, let us know (elonuniversityaaup@gmail.com) and we will add you to our Google list serve and invite you to our Discord channel.
We will use the list serve for updates and information, and the Discord is where we put meeting notes, discuss issues, and work on initiatives.
As members, the chapter is yours. You decide what the chapter does and how to uses its advocacy power and funds.
You'll also have access to state and national resources, including the NC AAUP Conference's new, free Legal Helpline
On Sept 16, 2025, Elon announced its intent to merge with Queens University in Charlotte with no forewarning to faculty at either institution and without involvement from any members of Academic Council.
On October 15th, the Elon Chapter of AAUP released this statement.
