El Mythico is a fictitious central American country inserted between real countries. It is a satirical mockery of the classic central American dictatorship/communist revolutionary/fascist scenario of the middle 20th Century.
It is a game ideally for between 4 and 6 players.
It is a blend of luck and strategy and good fun. It is NOT a serious wargame, but an amusing multi-player boardgame with a military leaning.
The El Mythico map is the one used originally for the PBM version of the game. We always liked the look and feel of it (even the pink mountains lines), as did many of our PBM players. As you can see it has a hex grid overlaid on it, but we don’t use that in this boardgame.
A multi-player boardgame is a totally different creature to a tactical level military simulation. It has to be fast and easy. So we have overlaid a “location based area movement system” over the original map. We kept all the important locations from the original map and use them as part of the game. The colour map is simply a background decoration to the game map.
Randomly make an Event Deck of 54 cards from those available.
During the game you will elect to take Event Cards into your Hand for play at a later time. You may have a maximum of 5 cards in your Hand. If you get a 6th Card you must chose a card to discard and gain nothing for it.

*Generally you can move from one Location to a Field Location as indicated by an Arrow. You may also do the reverse. Some Field Locations are directly linked to another Field Location, these will have their own Arrows, and allow movement from one to the next. Not all Field Locations allow this.
Deal one card to each player, in order lowest card number to highest (bottom right corner), do the following:
· Each player select a starting Town, place 2 Proven Infantry and 1 Proven Mechanised unit, your Leader and a colour marker there.
· Each player select one village anywhere on the map. Place 1 Green Infantry and a colour marker there.
· Each player select a second Village anywhere on the map. Place 1 Green Infantry and a colour maker there.
· Select 1 Installation, not in the Capital area, and place 1 Proven Infantry and a colour marker there.
· Deal 2 Event Cards to each player.
Your selections do not have to be near each other, but I suggest they not be too far apart or you will get isolated.
Place the following neutral units and counters:
Army HQ: 2 P Inf, 1 P Mech, 1 P Art, Entrench, 2 EQ.
Andino Airport: 2 P Inf, 1 P Mech, 1 P AA, DugIn, 2 EQ.
EMTV: 2 P Inf, 1 P Mech, DugIn, 1 EQ
All other unowned Installations: 1 P Inf, DugIn, Minefield.
Each City Location: 1 P Inf, DugIn.
