Julie has traveled twice to Israel, was a BBYO Youth Ambassador to Bulgaria, participated in the "March for the Living" in Poland and helped clean up a Jewish Cemetery there, traveled for a summer throughout Europe, spent a summer learning Spanish in Ecuador, studied for a semester in Thailand, interned in an Oncology Department at a Thai Hospital, traveled for 2 additional months through Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong, got her scuba certification in the Indian Ocean, visited her brother in Taiwan where he was working on radar systems and traveled while she worked for 14 months in South America. During the summer of 2012, she worked with the Navajo Nation in New Mexico on a Johns Hopkins vaccine study for the Center of American Indian Health. In May 2013, Julie completed her Masters Degree in Global Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University after working 7 months in Sri Lanka while doing research for her thesis on causes of acute febrile illness.
After graduation, Julie worked for 24 months in South Sudan, Africa for the Carter Center
