Tesla Model Y vs Model 3

Post date: 19-Apr-2020 10:07:24

So you're in the market for a Tesla and you're kind of undecided between the model three and the model y I can completely understand why you may be torn on that because you're probably hearing some of these reports that the model Y is ahead of schedule and deliveries might potentially start in quarter one of 2020 maybe that's making you think it's worth waiting not getting a model three just so that you can be part of that first wave to get the model y but keep in mind there are a lot of reservation holders for the model Y so even if you haven't ordered one yet and I don't know maybe you watch today's video and that convinces you to order and reserve a model Y.

But you're not gonna get that thing delivered until at the very soonest probably end of the summer potentially even later given a lot of the delivery windows we keep talking about are up to speculation they might not actually end up happening but there's definitely a lot of similarities in a lot o dated info out there that can make things fairly confusing for people wondering where should I begin but an important factor for a lot of people is price which I'm happy to say it's actually pretty close the model y on average is a little bit more expensive obviously because it is a larger vehicle with more cargo space it sits up a lot higher there's definitely probably going to be a better convenience factor when getting into the car because you don't have to drop down as much they're certainly going to be more cubic feet of storage compared to the model three.

Because the model y is a hatchback much easier to load things into the back the front is likely going to be a little bit deeper as well in the people in the back seats of the model Y will enjoy a much more painted graphic glass roof compared to the model 3 which has a bar going across the back so from a scenic perspective sitting in the backseat of a model y must be pretty impressive I have not done it myself but I have seen the pictures and I do think it looks incredibly cool but hang on the topic of price the model 3 currently actually starts on the website at $40,000 yeah they actually raised the price by 500 bucks a couple days ago without any added features or anything.

So I'm quite confused why they decided to increase the price that much the range did not increase they didn't throw anything else in there the price just went up but the price of the model Y configurations you can get off of the site in reserve for yourself currently have not changed since the original model Y event that was back in March very very high chance of the prices changing before the actual lunch but currently they do not let you reserve a standard range or standard range plus option of the model ie but what they do have is something that the model three no longer offers which is a long-range rear wheel drive that starts at forty eight thousand dollars which if you head over to the model three a long range option the cheapest one to get that three hundred plus mile range on your model three that actually cost closer to forty nine thousand dollars.

Now a lot of people may find that a little bit confusing but to be fair that is an all-wheel drive where as a model why gives you that option for just the rear wheel motor while still retaining that larger battery pack of course if you'd like an all motor design they still offer that but it's going to cost a little bit extra on the model wise site that currently costs fifty-two thousand dollars and the performance model Y will cost you 61 thousand dollars which is quite a bit higher than the model three performance version which starts at just fifty-seven thousand dollars now if you care a lot about range in a vehicle you'll notice that the model 3 is clearly the winner.

The long range rear-wheel drive is currently the best range you can get with the model Y and that just maxes out at 300 miles to be fair though there have been several software updates that have been sent out to the model 3 to increase its range that was able to allow the standard range plus option to go up by 10 miles so before it was 248 now it's 250 and for the long range all wheel drive model 3 it went from 310 mile range to now 322 so actually 12 miles were added simply via a software update allowing the motors to be better with power efficiency now that software update has not been added to the model Y on the website those ranges have been set in stone.

Ever since the event so there's a good chance that maybe once the mono Y starts delivering they'll update the ranges and I'll be sure to cover all that once it starts happening so aesthetics are a very personal preference thing but the good news is that the interiors and exteriors of both of these cars in my opinion you may disagree with me but my opinion they both look very nice I have had extensive experience with the model 3 and the model y interior appears to be almost identical in every single way you've still got that 15 inch display in the front which is going to be controlling most of the cars mechanics and while the model Y does have an option for a 7 seat interior.

That's reportedly not going into production until 2021 but again the model wise ahead of so I think there's a decent chance that the 7-seater option may be coming out by the end of next year that's all speculation there's no rumors to suggest that but hopefully in the first quarter of 2020 Tesla will start letting people reserve the standard range option which Tesla stated they would like to start at thirty nine thousand dollars with a range of two hundred and thirty miles.

So not a great range compared to the rest of the Tesla lineup but given you'll be able to have a seven-seater option with this vehicle it's still a hatchback but you don't have to pay the whopping eighty thousand dollars that you have to pay for a Model X beautiful car amazing Falcon doors I love that vehicle but honestly you could buy two mono eyes for the price of one Model X to give you that kind of perspective and any range over 200 miles is honestly not that bad it's just that over time if you plan on driving this vehicle a lot for many many years that range will get worse with time and once your battery packet gets below 200 miles.

Then I think it's fair to say you're kind of limited and how far you can go with road trips and that kind of thing but for driving around town and things like that there's nothing wrong with the range but I do find it quite bizarre that the cheapest model 3 you can buy right now starts at $40,000 in the standard range model I will eventually start at 39,000 but that's probably because at this point Tesla has not announced a model why standard range plus option which is actually what you're buying from Tesla sites there is a regular standard range option for the Model 3 but you cannot reserve it from their site you have to call in it's considered a special order and while the hardware is almost identical to the standard range plus Model 3 all they really do is software lock a lot of features primarily range a little bits locking in the car at a 220 mile range.

In that particular model 3 starts at $35,000 so yeah at the end of the day the model 3 is still technically cheaper than the model Y with providing better range so if you don't mind having a standard trunk that isn't a hatchback not having a seven-seater option and having a lower to the ground sedan some people may prefer that maybe you don't the model 3 is clearly going to be a better bang for your buck but I think there's a huge market for the model Y given it is a hatchback.

You do have that $3,000 add-on to allow a seven-seater option a lot of people care about SUV's a lot of people care about having larger vehicles and while both these cars do look incredibly similar it's interesting to me that they can kind of serve completely different demographics this is definitely going to be better for family vehicles that need a lot more storage and maybe have lots of kids because by the looks of the model wise we've spotted in public that third row looks insanely crammed and it's making me think if Tesla shouldn't have even had that option in the first place you know some people just wanted to hatchback and they wanted the car that was the higher off the ground.

Those two seats in the back look really cramped so you know once the motto I actually starts coming out I would love to test drive one and see what it's like but yeah those back seats are definitely designed just for children so definitely more of a family vehicle than the sedan is which is probably better for people living on their own or just living with a roommate and don't have lots of kids that they need to drive around regularly and store a lot of stuff in but either way both of them will support the version three super charging and 250 kilowatt hours both of them are going to continue to get software updates and currently any model why your reserve comes with premium interior.

Which does mean you get a free year of premium connectivity unlike the standard range in standard range plus options with the model 3 which only allowed you a complimentary 30 days of premium connectivity and then you have to pay 10 bucks a month for it so it's kind of nice that they're still offering the long range rear-wheel drive option for those people who don't care too much about the performance of the vehicle which is still pretty good for a family SUV but obviously it's not going to hold up to the model 3 as well but yet still full self-driving capable one day hopefully lamanno I will be able to drive itself just as well as the model 3 can.

And while there are a lot of design similarities to these two vehicles they almost serve completely different demographics so if you don't mind waiting I think the motto I could be a great purchase for you but if all the things I list about the model why didn't sound too interesting and too captivating for your personal needs by all means go ahead with the model 3 maybe wait for the price to drop a little bit more given they just rose the price.

That's a little weird maybe they're hoping to drop the overall price of the model 3 once the federal tax credit ends at the end of the year to make it fair for future owners they may lower the retail price for that given people buying a model 3 into 2020 aren't gonna get the same incentives as people buying it now either way though I think it's safe to say you'll be buying one of the safest vehicles you can also very clean for the environment and very fun to drive let me know which one you would pick or if you're in the market which one you're leaning towards and thank you guys for watching this video I hope you have the next one day take care of.
