The first week of ELD Focus time should be like the first week of any class--you will need find out as much about your students as possible, establish a classroom community, and teach expectations and procedures.
Below I've posted a document I created with ideas for multicultural activities. If you are looking for a way to start, it may be useful.
These activities will allow you accomplish the tasks mentioned above while acknowledging and valuing the diverse cultures and heritages represented in the room.
You will also need to find out the ACCESS scores for each of your students. Remember that we also have Model Kits if you would like to get a more current reading on your students' proficiency levels or monitor their growth.
